man i would LOVE to extend my range. When i babysit for the couple behind me there living room with a big screen tv is on the exact opposite side of where my WiFi network is. I can sign on aim but i get disconnected alot due to the football field distance inbetween houses. I would really love to see a range enhancer!!!

You know what a cantenna is right? It's a 2.4 GHz waveguide made out of a can (like a big soup can or juice can). It's directional, so you have to aim it. Usually they are mounted outside to achieve very long distance links between another node with a similar antenna that are lined up. In other words it's not something you would lug around with you inside of your house. :)

However you could put in on your WAP / Wireless Router to get coverage in a specific direction.

For home use, or neighbor wifi using, buy a repeater. Its a little unit that strengthens the wifi. My buddy has one.. Im going to also install one in my house so a buddy of mine who is poor can use my internet.

Mayakovski,

I tried your link and succesfully flashed my router. Although I have to say I did not get the same distance as you say you got. I also tried Linksys's newest firmware update located here got about one hundred more steps than the other one.
