MPEG encoding

MPEG encoding

Postby Dave » Jun 14, 2001 @ 8:48pm

Hi.

Using an EM-500 (like it lots!).
I was wondering what the best settings to use in TMPGENC are when encoding MPEG movies for use on it. I'm using a MMC card too (32mb) so that needs to be taken into account. What is the best bit-rate and resolution. I can get ok results at 320x240 (196kbs) but the picture is a bit jumpy. Also will decreasing the framerate help much??

Thanks in advance.

DJ

MMC transfer is somewhat slow, and may contribute to the "jumpiness". You may want to have a go at reducing the bitrate even further. Another thing to consider is reducing your image size. This can make a considerable difference in your playback speed. For Portrait viewing 208x160 is still pretty nice, and will help retain your picture quality at a lower bitrate.

The MMC was a real problem for the EM-500, Casio released a patch that was supposed to drasticaly improve read speeds, I have not tested it but I heard it worked.

http://www.casio.com/downloads/Consumer_devices/UpdatePackVer101OVS.zip

Now that I look at it again it only mentions SD cards, but try it out and tell us how it works

Last modification: Matt Keys - 06/14/01 at 18:22:32
