For those of you interested in digital photography

It's the EOS-D from Cannon. Arguably the best digital camera out to date. This promotion they have gets you a FREE 1GB MICRODRIVE and power pack when you buy the camera!

Yeah, the EOS-D retails at around $3000US boys. This is for the serious contender only.

The Maciva is all but off the radar these days. You have to look at Nikon's high end CoolPix (which are sub $1000US) for moderate range and Cannon's high end ($3000-$6000) for the serious shit.

I would like a very small digital camera with a decent zoom, price range...400-500 bucks. You know of anything?

That is SOOOOO hard to do Matt.

Best I can tell you is to look at Nikon. The CoolPix series is very good, Nikon never uses shitty lenses, even on their low end stuff. The 800 series is retailing in the 400-500 range or slightly more now. It is stictly point and shoot, and limited in functionality, but if all you want is resolution and good quality, there you go. If you want to hunker down and spend more, then the 900 series is much better. you can do a price search on the web and find a 995 for ~$600.

Nikon kicks EVERYTHING's ass up to the point where you are spending over $2000. All there stuff does compressed and uncompressed. They have a MINIMUM res of 1600x1200 and most of there stuff is higher. And the skin tones rock. So, there it is bro. Hope this helped.

Hey, add a digital photography section and I'll do some reviews for ya!!!! ;)

Oh, yeah, GET A CF CAMERA. Most of them are anyway, but that's the only way to go. Esp if you have a PPC with one...then you can geek out and pull the card from the camera to view the shots on the PPC!!!!

Ric give me some advice. I'm also hunting for something good and cheap (is that an oxymoron?). I don't need nothing fancy, with lots of resources, but I want decent lenses, a good optical zoom and the ability to use CF.
What would be a good option?

Good and cheap...I will refrain from the mom jokes here. :)

Seriously though...

Basically you want the top 3 things everyone wants,
1) Adaptable lenses
2) Good resolution
3) Nice optical zoom

Forget the optical zoom. Not gonna happen. The best you can hope for, without sacrificing EVERYTHING for a specialty camera, is about 2.5 to 3. Which is decent. However if you get a camera that takes lenses, and the company is reliable, then you are all but guaranteed the option of a telephoto, of which I have 2.

Optional lenses are critical if you want to do anything interesting like Wide angle or use a filter or whatever. Because of that, I always come back to Nikon and Cannon, because they are reliable comanies with great shit and they make superior lenses, and plenty of them.

Now its the $$$ part and that is where you get creamed. I personally like the SLR body style, but if you want digital in the format, it is BIG $$$. And, for the record, in that case it is all about the Cannon D-30 series. Best on the market, bar none.

All that leaves is Nikon, which is actually a good thing because it narrows down the competition and makes the decision easier. The 800 series is cheaper than the 900 series, and in truth, if you are not a pro, you probably won't miss the features that the 800 series doesn't have (like manual f-stop and stuff). The new 800's, to my knowledge, take the same lenses as the 900 series. Which is way cool. I have a wide angle, telephoto, UV filter, NDs, polarizer...blah blah. Lots of stuff. Go and check it out.
