266 Mhz PC and ripping DVDs

266 Mhz PC and ripping DVDs

Postby JSVH » Dec 12, 2001 @ 9:28pm

I was happy to discover that my mom's PC DOES have DVD-rom, this means I dont have to buy a DVD-rom (hopefully) for my computer. But the problem is her computer is 266Mhz, will this cause problems for ripping DVDs? Is their any way I cold do the "heavy computing stuff"(Decoding or whatever) on my 1.3Ghz? We are networked so sending large amounts of data back and forth wont be too difficult.
Last modification: JSVH - 12/12/01 at 18:28:49

You could rip the dvd on her comp, then transfer it to your computer... if she doesn't have 6gb free you could rip it right to your comp by mapping a network drive on her comp to your comp... then setting that as the output drive.

How long will it take to rip the average DVD on a 266?

Sounds like it's time for a Ho-down, Bonzie! Let's gitty on up.
Or you could just put the DVD-ROM drive in your computer and put your CD drive in hers. 266MHz probably isn't even enough to WATCH a DVD.
If your mum resists, just wrassle her for it!

Oh but if we switched CD drives then the colors on my computer wouldn't match! Ohhhh, Slate Black and Ion silver.Last modification: JSVH - 12/20/01 at 17:16:17

it ownt take that long. ripping the VOB files does not decode them, so it is pretty much a straightforward copy. it is slowed down by having to input the copyright key at certain intervals.
and ripping over a network is painfully slow. if space is limited, rip one vob at a time and send them over individually. each vob is a gig.
Why?
