You still haven't told me if you've actually played both games.
You're a fool to think Aoe and Aoe2 are "90% alike." Of all games I've ever played, I know the Age series the best; trust me, they're not that alike. Aoe was more of a historically based warcraft clone. Aoe 2 was a giant step forward for the whole genre. How are you going to make a mod to govern all the new stuff that aoe2 has? The engine alone (as Trae mentioned) is quite different. Just go look for some interviews with the Ensemble staff, they Aoe2 engine was a complete re-write and was years ahead of aoe. For instance, Aoe2's campaign and scenario's were all scripted, somerhing Aoe could'nt even dream about. Garrisoning was a completely new addition to aoe, as was formations, tactics and unit stances. The random map generator was two times as complicated than the random map generator in aoe - it's all XML (IIRC) scripting.
Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.
