Guys, I'll do you one better.
Way back when (1998) I was doing some serious piracy. I was a regular at a special site that ... well, they didn't directly distribute warez, but it was a sort of nexus between end users, distributers, crackers... and one other group:
The software developers themselves. Without a word of a lie.
A certain software developer - well known and respected today, as they were back then - had a sort of gentleman's agreement between them and the crackers.
The rule was this: if X releases a new title, there will be an embargo on it for 7 days. During this time, no group or distro may distribute said title. After that, we had their blessing. See, the thing was: they actually sold *much more copys* when they did that because of the free advertising and hype it created!! **They made money because of the pirates**
