I Have succeded in porting PocketQuake to CASIOS

Well, CARPEDIEM, I've overclocked my computer and have no fear of messing around inside it, even when it's on. I know all about releasing static charge and don't think I'd have any problems.
I want to know if I'd have any REAL chance of messing up my pocket pc.
And what specific kind of pencil did you use? I want to make sure it works out just as good.Last modification: Moose Master - 02/23/01 at 17:44:49

How do you guys get the keyboard to stay up? my E-125 crashed at like 4 PM when Dan asked me to test 0.04 in landscape. when i hit consol, it works fine, but the keyboard flickers out! how do you get the TIMEREFRESH thing to work w/o a usable keyboard. (i also have to try it all with only one hand. my cast is due off in 3.5 weeks, just after i turn 15!)

Well if the Casio's can do 2-3FPS (overclocked) timefresh at the start of the level, then I can't want to see what 6-7FPS (or more) looks like on the iPAQ. That's what I predicted fixed-point math would improve it by around the time that method was first suggested.

I reckon 8-9FPS Timerefresh would make quake just about perfect for the rest of the game itself. Good to see this figure is now close at hand, although I still don't reckon you'll ever made that golden 20-30FPS on an iPAQ - good if you can get it, but it'll take more than fixed point math.

Someone... please think about the keyboard... I depend on the kindness of others at this point.

wow! fantastic.. a quake.. erm.. i'm getting 2.49fps on timerefresh with the screensize down a few notches... is there a way to turn off sound on the console to improve performance or is there simply no benefit of that? muting or turning the volume all the way down doesn't seem to do anything to performance.

mikegreene,
I couldn't figure out either.. but the keyboard is actually there just that you don't see it, mlook bitmap is being refreshed over it or something.. but if you know exaxtly where the keys are, you can still hit them..

anyhow, to get timerefresh to work.. change to Character Recognizer.. start quake...go to a new game and don't move. Them hit the CONSOLE button.. and write it! TIMEREFRESH and hit enter

When I added sound support to the iPaq version (version 0.03) it made absolutely no difference in performance, as was expected. The 3D rendering is responsible for such a huge portion of the processing time that these other areas are essentially insignificant to FPS.

Dan East

I've had trouble with the virtual keyboard myself, there's no way to see it. so writting timerefresh took me a loooong time.
But now i know the exact locations for the characters i need so i write it pretty fast.
The SIP shows perfectly on the iPaq, so I'm not exactly sure why it doesn't behave properly on the Casio devices. So it's there (with the console), you just can't see it?

Dan East

Dan, that is correct. You can see the keyboard flash on the screen, but it is quickly covered over by the skin for quake.

LOL, WOW. I Overclocked my Casio (put screws in to tightly btw, stylus no longer fits. I'll fix it in a sec) and now I get on my Timerefresh:
2.239173 FPS
It's amazing. It's only at 180MHz to my knowledge. Is that right Carpediem? Or did I not erase the A1 mark completely and got 200 instead?
It goes up to 15 easily when I'm against a wall.. but I don't know, I have no reference on a PPC screen.Last modification: Moose Master - 02/24/01 at 12:08:35
