Just read that slashdot article about schools now are confiscating cellphones and searching their records for numbers called and text messages for evidence of breaking regulations or drug use suspicions.
Several people in the comments were up in arms about the student's rights.
Guess what, these students do not have any rights at all. It's called 'in loco parentis'. As soon as the student steps onto their school's property the teachers and administration have all of the rights of the parent. Aside from that simple fact which is regardless of age, these students do not have ANY civil rights until they turn 18. The school can do whatever it wants to.
