Anyone know if its possible or has ever thought of prting a Quake map editor to the Palm PC so that you can make your maps on the go? Just and idea. -- Anthony

Yeah, I thought about that too....
The problem is that the screen is sooo small, I mean, I use a 17´ screen for my dasktop PC and I still think it´s small for making levels...

Yeah, it would require a completely new interface rather than porting an existing map editor. Like Diego said, the editing space is quite small on a 17" monitor.

.MAP files are standard ASCII text, so their format is simple. Of course the compilers would need to be ported to PocketPC.

I'd love to see a simple "brush and texture" editor for PPC, just so I can rough out some ideas while I'm out.

ya a map editor would be pretty nice, but i think you'd havve to have a toolbar of some kind to switch between views, cause all four at a time would be stupid and non-viewable.

Great idea Randall, it wouldnt even have to be a complicated editor just basic funtions like you said so you can play around. In fact if anyone gets one out Ill pay 70$ for it, no joke.

I bet most map editors use Direct3D or OpenGL to render the 3D models, as opposed to being based off the actual Quake engine. Of course D3D and OpenGL are not available for Pocket PC, which would greatly increase the difficulty of porting an editor to Pocket PC.

Dan East

actually i dont think any of us are bothered about the 3d preview - just being able to build it in 2d would be good enough

I rely heavily on the 3d window, of course I am a newbie at this so that could have alot to do with it.

and we could use js landscape in vga mode and have the picture in 640x480, sure you'd have to use a microscope to actually see what the hell you're doing, but still.......
