a tad slow (~5fps) on my EM500

a tad slow (~5fps) on my EM500

Is this just my weak MIPS 150mhz processor or is there some way I can change this with different settings?

Look if you think that is slow, I got ~4.5 fps on my Hp Jornada 545. And the pak files were gziped.

well the main problem is the files were gzipped, if its unzipped u gain a significant increase in speed and loading. Dan has promised two more fps in the next version too. Soo If you are on a overclocked E-125 to 180 with unzipped pak files, with this version i get 9fps maybe, and 11 when the new version is out. I haven't tested since i overclocked to 200 i'll post those results sometime soon. Also, if you are playin the single player levels, you will only get 5-7 fps, those levels are horribly made and have huge poly counts which bogs down the system. Try some of the optimized levels we've written, you'll need the pak1.pak file which comes from the registered version of Quake. But with these optimized levels it runs playable, easily. And is alot more fun with DM and bots than single player anyways. :)

1- Overclock your EM for god's sake!

2- Play Custom PPC friendly Maps

3- Gzipped pak files only interfere with the game's pace while the sounds are loaded, once cached, they are never loaded again, so the gzip problem is only for the first few minutes/seconds.

PocketQuake uses 100% C language to run - it doesn't take advantage of assembly language that its PC version was able to. So consequently, the PocketPC's have a slowdown impact here caused by this.

The fastest platform is an iPaq overclocked to 236 Mhz (about 10-15fps) but the button problem keeps a few gamers away, especially when using emulators and other games. The ARM chips are generally more efficient than the MIPS on a per-Mhz basis.

DeathsMaster: I didnt even know memory cards came that small!! I dont believe there is any way to overclock the SH3 processor, the Journada is the slowest off all PPCs.
