Casio and iPaq button assignments.

Casio and iPaq button assignments.

Postby Matt Keys » Jun 13, 2001 @ 3:47pm

I need to know the botton assignments for the casio and iPaq series pocketpc's so I can make some configs for quake. If you dont know what I am talking about, here is an example the four gamepad buttons on my amigo are AUX2, AUX3, UX4, and AUX5. Please tell me these assignments for your casio or iPAQ and the location of the button. If you REALLY are bored a nice little picture wouldnt hurt:)

I am fairly certain that he does not play in landscape but instead he had a landscape picture of a casio and his map and added them toghether. Although it would be pretty easy to play if you could double tap on the screen to shoot, then double tap and hold to keep shooting. Maybe something we could implement in version .07

Admittedly, I don't ever recall Dan or I even considering the Casio when I submitted my skin.

Remember, back then PQ was ARM only, and was at the time considered an exclusive. I think that had a lot to do with only thinking the iPAQ's control scheme all the way through.

Not until I had a go with Chuck's config did I realize how drastically different the game is played with the exclusion of a Dpad-mounted Action button. That (now holy) Action button on the iPAQ allows you to move and shoot all with only your lone thumbtip. This leaves your other hand free to make full use of the onscreen Mlook area. That 1 finger-move/shoot inability on the Casio pretty much negates the use of the onscreen Mlook :( This play-style is hardly a step up from DOOM, and I can see why some people still prefer PD to PQ.

I thought it might be do-able to play using the Mlook on the Casio if you mapped Attack to the Rec button, and used your forefinger to depress it, and your thumb on the Dpad to move. The other hand would use the Mlook the same war iPAQ users do. Unfortunately, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the REC key has been hard-bound to MenuToggle or something or other. I think I recall Dan saying something about that. In any case, a MIPser should give it a go and
bind REC +attack
and see if that works out for them.

The virtual buttons (onscreen buttons) are the same across all devices.

the lighting and my digital camera gave it gold tint. I didn't bother correcting the color.

I play in landscape mode sometimes. It depends on the map and the type of bots. I have a real funky configuration that helps somewhat. Most people would hate it.
