mapping question...

mapping question...

Postby xid » Jun 19, 2001 @ 5:41pm

I downloaded a hot air ballon prefab for my level im working on for pocketquake, but i have a question about it. it comes with a path for the ballon to move already made in the map file. I was wondering though what else i need to do to actually get the ballon to move on that path. i tried just putting the ballon with its path in my map and just hoping in it, but the baloon didnt budge. any ideas how to get this to work? thanks in advance.

I wouldn't use a prefab- they tend to be way too high in polycount. People get happy with the brushes and say "Gee look what I made- isn't it cool looking?"

Yeah, it may look cool, but it'll run like shit. Half-life had a million of these posers creating prefabs that exceeded 1000 poly.

To tell you the truth, I hate every one of my maps because they are still too high poly.

Anyway, to get back to the real question about the path thingy- You have to target the func_train to the first node in the path. After that it should should just follow every node, assuming all the nodes are daisy-chained.

Each node should target the next node, until it completes a loop.

At least that's how I remember off the top of my head.

so do I have to make a button brush then assign the func train to that?

The hot-air balloon should be a func_train (the entire object). It should have a name and a target.

You can send the prefab to me and I can figure out how it is supposed to work. Sometimes people don't document stuff very well, or create something that only works on their computer.

It is pretty difficult to troubleshoot without seeing how it is constructed.

blindtypist@yahoo.com

xid... when you figure something out could you post a little info about how you solved it? I noticed you had a Q about custom sound files, but didn't really offer info on it.

I am sure other people can use what you have learned.
