Rocket Arena Mod for PocketQuake

Rocket Arena Mod for PocketQuake

Postby 999 » Apr 21, 2001 @ 5:00pm

Hello, in my time away, I'm pleased to post I've managed to get Rocket Arena working on PocketQuake :)

It's a bit of a hack job, and requires that you use the Omnicron bot (it's about time we dub it the offical PocketQuake bot:)), but is really cool none the less.

I'm working on a neat config file which will start you off in a 1 on 1 RA bot match in the 999a Arena, as well as tweaking the configs for for better weapon switches during the match and a Rocket Jump bind (thats right, no Self Rocket Damage in Rocket Arena!!!).

More to come shortly.

Map Authors Note- Your existing DM maps will not work in with a Rocket Arena server. To make it compliant, your info_player Deathmatch entities are used for spectator spawn points in RA. Teleport Destinations are used in the actual Arena where the combatants are to duke it out. In order for your map to compile correctly, name the teleport destinations, although they will not be called upon by name in Rocket Arena. Additionally, Remove all the Items from your map. You now have a RA compliant map.

999
(here on business)

Do you mind sending me the files?

Will the maps need to be totally different (i.e 2 versions for download) or just modified so they are both dm AND ra compatible?

I think it would be pretty boring to play a DM without any items... I think you probably need 2 seperate downloads... I don't know... I just posted this to make more interest in this thread
weak, to complicated, and whats good about rocket arena, i'm havin fun by myself playin with reaper bot, on all the levels and not worrying about a rocket jump, yes i don't care about a rocket jump. :) i'm sure its good for you 999 but not for me, givve me a bunch of counterstrike lookin levels, and some single player goal based levels and i'll be happy. i do so wish we could have a ctf game thou, although i'm sure thats not possible

No Soup for you Chuck.

Anyhow, I'll be releasing 2 new RA only maps tonight, as well as an enhanced version of 999a.

These new maps, and the new enhanced 999a promise longer matches with more nooks and crannies to hide in, as well as more open areas for the usual RA mayhem.

I'll post the new maps and Configs shortly.

u don't need to.
I simply provide my autoexec because it binds the buttons for superior PDA play with the stylus. The new "Sticky" fire buttons rock. It also binds a key to "exec ramapload.cfg", which means all you really have to do is type that in the console with u'r own Autoexec file and u'r golden. ;) You'll still have to tap the "Arrow" key a couple times to initiate the server, but it sure beats typing anything in, or copying over your current autoexec.cfg file.

Just make sure to keep my RA specific configs in the id1 folder, they won't interfere with your normal Quake playing needs. Note, the rastart.cfg file has key bindings specific to the ipaq, you may want to check those if you're on anything else.

Paul:

Until the new site is launched, feel free to host anything you wish, it's convenience we're after right now ;)

I suppose once the new site is launched, you can continue to host the map files, however your biggest traffic should come from your custom pak files. I don't reckon we can pass those along here, especially under id's microsope (if they have one). Your compressed pak files are an excellent resource, I just honestly hope you didn't accidentally include your own Pop.imp file in them :P

I've just finished tweaking the maps some more, and unfortunately am only going to be releasing One new map tonight, as well as the final 999a-RA variation. Oh, because 999a is now final, I've renamed it to Deathbox :) The new map I have completed is named Devise, and aside from skins, is final as well.

Now, because I didn't finish my 3rd RA map in time, I'm going to post one of my personal DM maps, and yes, it's another 999a incarnation. In my trials with finding a fun item layout, I saved off a number of item variations. One in particular was the runner up to what ended up being released as 999a, aka Deathbox. This variation nixes all the powerups, replacing them with: Two Super Shotguns, Two Boxes of Shells, and on the centre structure, Qaud Damage :) Yea, things can get pretty fricken chaotic, but the pleasure of unloading two rounds into your opponent's chest at close range, quaded out, is a pleasure unto itself.

I'll have new zip files up shortly.

Last modification: 999 - 04/22/01 at 14:56:53
