well thanks for the help but this map looks beyond repair Ive spent all day trying to fix when I could be creating, Ive wanted to do a rocket arena level using a world war 2 german castle theme anyway so i think ill do that and abandon this map, thanks for your time though, very much appreciated. too bad though almost had enuff to run a dl and test on it.

You can send me the map and I'll try to decode it (the pointfile). I can't guarantee anything, since I didn't create it I don't know all the little nuances that go along with it.

Just make a big box with no leaks and put your map inside it.

lol, just kidding. :)

ya diego :) well you could put a big box around it, and then turn the lighting on the outside box really high, and the lighting on the inside really dark, then walk around till you see light.

Ok, I must be the absolute worst mapper ever (not to mention skinner).

What the hell are you guys talking about with all these lights and leaks?

I followed a simple tutorial on a half-life site, and it stated that I should "butt all walls" while zoomed up as closely as possible. I took that bit of advice and haven't looked back.

Do my maps "leak" or something?

I'm worried now.
I don't think any of 999's maps leak. With simple maps it is pretty easy to prevent leaks and even easier to find them if they pop up.

With more complex maps and shapes it is more difficult. Like DM Museum, editing a wall on the second floor could cause a leak on the first floor.

It gets worse if you do a bunch of modifications for like an hour and then suddenly compile it. A leak could have appearred ANYWHERE during that entire hour of editing,

That's why I restrict editing to a small confined area and then compile and test it. Then I move to another small confined area and repeat. Compiling only takes a matter of seconds on my machine (DM Museum takes about 25 seconds to compile) so it is a worthwhile preventive measure.

That sounded like you were saying 999 makes simple maps.

JJB have you seen my maps?

Simple isn't a "simple" enough word to describe them ;)

They're setup for a different style of gameplay, as they're RA2 and RailArena maps.

Oh hell no. 999 knows what I mean. His maps are ten times faster than anything I have produced, and that makes them ten times better for RocketArena and RailArena.

I am slowly learning to make better maps, my first few were a sad sight. But I am proud of my "ctf1" map that I included into my ctf pak file. And hopefully my newest map that i am working on will be my best yet. I originally learned mapping like most people, reading the tutuorials at the forge. But then to finish up my "training" i found a cool map on the internet, opened it up and looked at how they did everything in it. This I think helped me the most.

By today's mapping standards, my maps suXors. But since we're not playing a game that can even utilize today's maps, I stand by the notion that my maps would only just suck for back then ;)
