Rob:

Out of curiosity, how comfy is playing PQ while on a 720? Is it easy to balance the device on your lap, and use the stylus onscreen for analog Mlooking?

I reckon the best control setup is one which has a true Analog Mlook and the ability to play anywhere without any stipulations, like an iPAQ ;)

Heh, I forgot about the 720, still stuck in the Casio vs. Compaq mindset.
I guess you haven't read through many of the 210 posts on my other thread...LOL. Actually, I took away the virtual pad, since teh 720 has all of the functionality that you would need in the key board. You are kind of right though, when the virtual pad was still in use, it was hard to use both that and the key board, but that is a think of teh past. The find it kind of comfortible to use the keyboard too. One of my friends owns an IPAQ and I tried PQ on his device, and it just wasn't as fun as with a keyboard. The added resolution of 320 x 240 is pretty nice too, since you can easily see the whole screen, and still not have choppy gameplay when it isn't o/c. My friend is actually thinking of selling his IPAQ and getting a 720. But, I guess it is up to your own oppinion (even though a built in keybaord and bigger resolution are deffinitly the way to go :)). BTW, what stipulations are you talking about?

I think 999 was talking about using the stylus for MLook. Die-hard Quake players use their mouse to control yaw and pitch, and use the keyboard for movement (including strafing), firing, weapon selected, etc. The iPaq configuration is actually the same as what is most often used by PC gamers. A newbie to Quake on a PC would have also have some trouble learning to use their mouse for MLook, but it is still the best control method for navigating a 3D world.
The Pocket PC versions of PQ support full-screen 320x240, so that is not unique to HPC/Pro devices.

Dan East

Meh

I guess Dan and I are the only two people who prefer playing a 3D game with a fluid analog looking capacity.

My point is, Quake was made with the intention it's users would use the new glorious mlook feature with some sort of analog input device. Having not been offered in any previous id game, Mlook was a "big feature" next to physics when the game originally launched. By resorting to a digital Mlook, you negate one of the properties which seperates Quake from all previous id titles. This is why I stated if you wish to primarily use a keyboard like the stowaway (or a 720 keyset only) then you're better off playing a game like DOOM.

Stipulations: What I need to do in order to play a game, i.e. find a place to sit, etc etc.

Who cares, we're all playing Quake, and hopefully even the old ce2.11ers can join in and revel in what amounts to the satisfaction and joy of deciding to go CE over Palm.

999
I agree with 999, if I had to much money I would buy an iPaq just for PQ.
