Duke Nukem on PocketPC.

Duke Nukem on PocketPC.

Firstly, don't get your hopes too high. This is more of an acedemic exercise than anything else.

A while back we were talking about Duke Nukem for PocketPC's. Someone suggested playing a Genesis port on an emulator.

I found a Genesis emulator at:

http://www.pocketemulator.com/

This is the only Genesis emulator I know of.

I found a "Duke Nukem 3D" rom for Genesis. The game plays, but looks pretty bad, I can't fire the gun, and this particular emulator has no sound. Other than that it works great ;p

If you want to give this a try, let me know. The rom is 994 kb zipped up.

Perhaps someone will have better luck with this than I, or know of another emulator.

I wish 3DRealms would release the source or create a Duke Nukem game for PocketPC's. Same for Redneck Rampage or Shadow Warrior. These would all make great PocketPC games.

Legal disclaimer:

I do not condone piracy. Either delete the rom from your pc within 24 hours or rush out and buy the game.

Back up your PocketPC before running the emulator. That is what they say to do anyway.

I have an iPAQ 3670 by the way.

Cheers!

mlewis@kscable.com

Well, I dorked that one up. My name for that post should be Zathras. I'm not sure if I'm registered or not, the forgot password thingy doesn't appear to be working.

I just didn't want you to think I was some anonymous stranger :)

Why do all these morons think they can delete a game rom or warez within 24 hours of downloading it to make it legal? What idiot running a warez site thought that up? It's not a game rental!

I found out that the record button on the iPAQ is bound to "C" for firing in Duke.

The screen on PocketGenesis uses an invisible virtual joystick also. To use the joystick (from the PocketGenesis site):

In Normal video mode
Tap stylus on bottom left of screen: A
Tap stylus on bottom center of screen: A+B
Tap stylus on bottom right of screen B
In Landscape video mode
Tap stylus on right top of screen: A
Tap stylus on right center of screen: A+B
Tap stylus on right bottom of screen B

The spots are hard to find, but they are there.

Brian, how can there be a Duke port without the source?

The source is available. I used to have the source to GLDuke3D, but alas my computer crashed.

I know that warez are illegal, but the question is, who the heck puts a disclaimer on an illegal site? I mean, the companies know the real rules, and they are the ones who shut down warez sites?

They can put the diclaimer up stating that the site is meant as a personal backup site, unless the host says that it won't allow that kind of webspace usage. Then, if you advertise your site on T50 then you're obviously lying, so they shut you down. There's no real way around it. But it makes the losers feel safer.
