GXSetViewport may also allow the SIP to be displayed properly in the MIPS builds of PQ when running in portrait mode.

Dan East

Well, I don't know about the MIPS build, but I don't think GXIsDRAMBuffer will help too much with what I'm building now. There's so much infrastructure that had to be changed for the 4bpp vs. the 16bpp that I'm just going to implement it using #ifdef MONO_IPAQ.

By the way, where are you all getting the documentation? I've been having to work off the GAPI Brighthand column and just the header file this whole time, and I'd love to have some real docs to dig into instead of interpreting everything.

So [censored] close!

Postby TBone » Jul 26, 2001 @ 9:51pm

So [censored]in' close!

Okay, here's the deal. Calling the release function did the trick and I have video. It responds, it starts a single-player game, it makes frickin' julianne fries.

The problem is that the video is off. It's like I'm writing to the wrong column size or something, because the screen is kind of... split into three by scanlines. Look at this (enter cheap ascii representation).

If there were _supposed_ to be a line onscreen three pixels thick, you'd get this on my machine:

--------------
------------------
-----------------

Like that for each line. Freaky, huh? I'm not quite sure what's causing it. I've tried altering the values I use for incrementing the various loops, but I don't think I'm going to find it by trial and error. So has anyone seen this before, anyone know what could be causing it?

This is so frustrating. Yet so thrilling. <grin>

BOOM! Solved that problem, got another. Now it runs across the screen, the way it should, but it runs fullscreen. Like the whole screen is filled with Quake. I'm not saying that's bad, it's just not how it's supposed to work. I think I may have to fill the colEnd variable differently. It looks like it's skipping lines, too, which is odd. But it should be solved tonight.

Another thing. From what I could tell, the palette function I'm using is way off. It's using something like 4 colors instead of 16. Anyone got a better palette generation algorithm?

Are you sure that your autoexec.cfg isn't just set to landscape mode? :P

As slowly as I'm evidently thinking right now, I wouldn't have been surprised. But it's not tilted sideways for one thing. And it gives me 240x160 at the console entry. And I don't have an autoexec.cfg loaded yet. I'm waiting to do the timedemo to do that.

Or were you joking? I can't tell anymore. Dammit! <grin>

It wasn't really a joke, just me acting dumb but trying to be helpful at the same time. And you may not have known about the vid_mode console var, so whatever. I'm slightly depressed again.

You're depressed! The change I just made hard-reset the iPAQ! Aaah. It's a good thing I've started making constant backups after the first time I did this.

The worst part isn't having to wait for everything to reload, because most of my stuff is on CF. The worst part is having to redo all of my button assignments for Windows Media Player. The horror, the horror.

And Moose, man, don't get depressed. It was worth a shot. <grin>

SUCCESS!

It works! Sure, the palette still looks awful and I have to manually set the memory division to get it to run, but DAMN! I've got Quake on my 3150!

So once I get it polished up, does PocketMatrix want to host this at the PQ site, or should I do it at my own place? And who's interested in downloading, for starters?

Dude that is so cool man admire you, instead of being a whiny b*tch you got up and make quake work on the 3100 series yourself. Almost makes me wish i owned a 3100 so i could play around with it. :-)
