PocketQuake on monochrome iPAQ

Hey, it wasn't all me. I had a lot of help here, and I've gotta thank everyone who gave advice on getting this punkass thing running. I'm still ironing out the landscape modes and the contrast, but it seems to work pretty well so far. <br><br>So thanks, everyone! Now I've got something to really surprise the people I work with.

Good, I was hoping that would be the case. Should I just e-mail the files to you, Matt? And who should I send the source to?<br><br>Just got done playing with some of the console commands. Kind of stupid, but it looks wicked in greyscale with r_drawflat 1. <grin>

Umm yeah you can send it to me along with the source, I will upload them and update the PocketQuake page with them. The same thing goes for the H/PC port.

Trust me: it's not quite as much fun as it sounds. Remember how everyone always complained about the limited number of colors in Quake when it first emerged on PC? It's worse on B&W, because there are only 16 of them, and none of the textures were built for the high-contrast you need in a monochrome environment. As a result, things tend to blend together, and it can be really difficult to play some levels without resorting to a little chicanery (like switching on r_drawflat for a few seconds to see the individual polys and pick out enemies). I get a kick out of it, went out and bought the registered version tonight to play with, and it'll be a great show-off piece, but I don't think it's something you want to try if you're already running in color.

Sounds good. I've already put it up temporarily on my own site and linked to it from my Brighthand thread. Early adopters can head on over and get it from there if they're feeling frisky.

Wait a minute, what's this about posting on Wednesday anyway? Just because PocketMatrix won't be updating until Wednesday doesn't mean everyone else should have to wait that long to download. Blow that for a game of soldiers. Besides, this is just the .62 code translated. It's not a major frickin' event or anything.

OK I know I'm probably going to regret this for eons, but I kinda agree with Chucky on this one.  <br><br>It would be really great if Thomas' port was posted here before anyplace else.  My reasoning for this is that there will be announcements about the port on various Pocket PC related sites and even if you don't own a 3150 or aren't going to download it, that announcement should mention PocketMatrix.  This site should be associated with all things Quake on the Pocket PC.  We also have a great technical community here that is the best on the web from what I've seen of other forums and newsgroups.<br><br>Thomas if there are announcements on Brighthand, PocketGamer, etc. it would be a good thing if they mentioned PocketMatrix.  If you post the zip on your site, then folks aren't going to know where to get help, or how to find out about the other great games coming up that folks are working on here.  You've done a lot of good work on your 3150 port.  You did have some help from a lot of us along the way.  Give us a mention, will ya?<br><br>Chris, maybe you can get his bits on the site before Wednesday?  I can understand how hard he's worked and he wants to share his stuff as soon as he can.<br><br>OK, that's it.  I've said my bit.  I'm up way too early for a weekend and probably blathering nonsense.<br><br>

Woohoo! First post from the iPAQ!<br><br>Okay, point well taken on the Brighthand issue. Just for the record, though, on all my posts I've been plugging the offcial PocketQuake site, and I think (hazy memories after playing with the code until 2 last night) that I also included a URL here. So I don't want anyone to think that I was slighting PQ in any way. On the contrary, I've been massively impressed with everything Í've found here. As soon as it's up here, I'll take it down at my place and this will be the only place you can get it. All good?<br><br>Hey, it could have been worse. I could have uploaded it to Handango. <grin>
