pocket quake on an ipaq 3100

pocket quake on an ipaq 3100

Postby nyvz » Oct 23, 2001 @ 3:29am

what is the best way to run pocket quake on an ipaq 3100 with about 16mb free on a 32mb storage card and 9mb (program+storage) free in internal ram? ive tried running it with the 8mb shareware pak on the storage card or with the the scaled down 2mb pak file on the storage card or on the main memory, and all of them result in a message that says i dont have enough memory. what file locations should i use to get it to work, i just want to be able to play at least one level, and i think if i use the small 2mb pak file with one third party level that would take up the least space.

well sometimes it seems to run now but it always commits an illegal error right after the message box that introduces the game, any ideas on how to get around that?

Memory errors usually result when PQ tries to allocate more memory for itself and can't manage enough. Make sure that you have at least 7 megs free AND allocated to Program Memory. I personally set PQ as a hardware button so I can start it right from the Memory Applet.

If that is a monochrome device then you have to use the version of PQ specifically for that hardware.
I don't know where to point you to to download it offhand.

Dan East

Yeah, I gotta stop assuming people know there's a greyscale version. Wish Paul would go ahead and get it uploaded.

greyscale version of pocketquake, eh? i wasnt aware of that, i knew of an autoexec.cfg intended for greyscale ppc's, but not of a separate executable. where can i get that? so i should be able to run it from a storage card with only 7mb free on the internal ram? is that with the low memory pak, the shareware pak or the fullversion pak?

hah i have been using the greyscale executable this whole time, i forgot i got it a while back. still that doesnt fix the fact that it tells me things about memory problems and, any ideas on specifically on my problem, anyone who has similar settings and hardware and has it working? just need some ideas about what else to try so it will work
