I don’t need any one texture in particular, just more textures to choose from in general. Also as I believe 999 put it, "quake looks like mud" every texture seems to be brown or gray. So I took it upon myself to make some "colorful textures." Many of these may be a little to outrageous to use in quake, but there are a couple good ones in there. Yeah, we can all use more textures "in general". I was just wondering if you needed a GROUP of textures.

I already have three new WADs, which I'm not posting until I finish adding more textures to them. I'm using the new wall, floor and door WADs right now and add about 5 textures a day. I have enough textures to create a few new categories as well, I just haven't gotten around to it.

I guess I'm looking for an excuse to get my butt in gear and finish organizing these WADs.

Matt, when you are finished with your map, can I post the colorful_walls.WAD to my site? Your name will be credited of course.

Those colors are very nice. They definately defy the standard "quake mud" look. :)

Last modification: randall - 04/27/01 at 16:02:59

I dont mind if you go ahead and post them on your site before I release my map, I will not use most of them anyways. The same goes to paul or anyone else who wants to post them. I may have some other textures later.

Two questions:

Is it possible to decrease the entire map size all at once? Like I could enter the magnitude of .9 or something and it would get 10% smaller?

Also, for some reason I have been getting errors when trying to compile and run my level. It says that my map was not built and ask if I would like to continue. Upon further inspection, it seems that it does not see the map in the directory I have it pointing to, but it is there. Anyone know anything about this?

Most map editors don't support that type of global scaling because of the implications it could have.

As far as the compiling error goes, I have run into that problem before. There are several things that could cause it.

The last time it was an invalid texture. Texture names are limited to 15 characters, otherwise it becomes an invalid. Sometimes an invalid will still compile and appear as a checkerboard in the .BSP.

In this case, it just refused to compile until I repaced the invalid texture.

Remember to back up your files often. As a last resort you can always use the .MAP file from your last successful compile (a .MAP file is always generated for compiling).

I am having some different problems now, I have some double doors set up and they work fine except when I compile and run my map they are "transparent" until I look at them up close at a certain angle. Also when I am standing in the middle of my map and I look to either left or right I see grey blocks being drawn on my map. I assume this is quake does to speed up performence by not drawing what you cant see. The problem is I CAN see this, and it is really annoying.

Last modification: Matt Keys - 04/29/01 at 16:39:05

Uhm. I think that's a problem with either the cl_maxparticles or cl_maxedges/maxsurfs variables in the autoexec.cfg. Because that happens to me too. It's not anything to do with the doors themselves or how you made the map.

I assume all this happens in pocketQuake, not WinQuake?

Actually this is all happing in winQuake, I notice this happens with all entities. So is this just a problem with my Quake. Or if I was to release this would everyone have this problem? If this is just a problem with my quake I could release this map maybe later on today.
