I'm getting an error when starting Quake saying gfx.wad is missing. Ideas?

The readme compressed with the zip file didn't say anything about the gfx.wad file... :( Only the dll file and that's in the correct directory.

Look at the read me, and re-install quake using those steps word for word. Come back if it still doesn't work.

The pak0.pak.gz file is in the wrong place, has not been decompressed, or is corrupted. There are very specific instructions in this forum. Look for other posts with gfx.wad in the topic.

Dan East

If it pak0.pak.gz file is in the right directory and it doesn't work at all, you maybe didn't placed the quake folder into the root directory

( /quake )

The 'gfx.wad error' means you installed it incorrectly. The reason why everyone says 'read the readme' is because if you follow the instructions exactly as they are written, you shouldn't get that error.

Just click on the forum search button, and search for gfx.wad

Wouldn't it be possible to make some kind of auto-reply for questions like this. Like when the words "gfx.wad" and "missing" (for example)are in a post the forum would reply itself...
I guess this wouldn't be too easy, but maybe it is...

you guys shouldn't get so angry at these people. Its not like its the same person over and over, they are different, and they didn't do anything to be yelled at for

Maybe there should be a special FAQ Link on top
of the Page for Quake-Specified Questions ;)
