PQ LAN Game with IR Port

PQ LAN Game with IR Port

Postby Warren » Nov 9, 2001 @ 9:50pm

Sup, man, I haven't posted in the PQ section of the forum in while. My question is: a friend at school will be purchasing an iPAQ soon (he wants an iPAQ, but is also looking into the E-125 too), and I would like to know if both of us have PQ on our PPCs, would it be possible to have an IR port LAN game between them? With no modems? Can you imagine how sweet that would be?!?!? AHH!!!! Anyway, would that be possible??? Thanks!!

Last I checked, it is possible, but has yet to be accomplished.

I believe it doesn't work on the Casio E-125 because the IR port stops working... it is a hardware problem (that any games on the casio experience), I think.

I've never tried playing Quake over IR; I think it is theoretically possible, but has never been done. Maybe Dan can expand on this... :)

All that is required is TCP/IP (actually, only the IP portion is needed) connectivity. From what I've heard, you can establish a TCP/IP link over IR, but you have to modify the registry directly to configure it properly.
This really isn't a Quake issue, it's just a matter of configuring the network properly. Quake doesn't know / care what the actual physical connection is (wireless, modem, ethernet, USB, serial, IR, etc), as long as a TCP/IP stack is available.

Dan East

I am, very busy (I can never make the freakin' water system work!! AHHH!!), but though now a lot of my friends are getting PPCs, it would be cool to have LAN PQ games.

Well i dunno about having more then two people playing. See the ppc infred is weak, i mean pretty darn weak and has to be posistioned in DIRECT line of site with the other ir item (second ppc in this case) about 95% of the time. The problem is that you cant really position three ppc's all in direct line of site of one annother. Maybe im wrong thought maybe they just all have to point to the server.
