Pocket Quake speed

Pocket Quake speed

Postby foodisgood » Dec 29, 2001 @ 9:04pm

I couldnt find any references to frames per second when I searched the forum. I may buy an Ipaq in the near future and I am intrugued by this pocket quake. Can someone tell me how fast it runs? I saw pocket quake 2 runs at 3 fps.

Is pocket quake playable? is it fun on such a small screen?

Can Pocket Quake 2 ever achieve 17+ fps?

Sorry for all the questions but its damn interesting :)

My experience on a 200 mhz casio (slower than an ipaq, but not significantly) is that the regular quake levels are not very playable, but custom levels designed for the ppc are very playable.(and quite fun)

Really, I find the regular levels on my 720 (at 206 mhz) playable, and at 221mhz (I think that's it) they are very playable. I'd say read the reviews. If you get an IPAQ get the new one, I think the button problem is fixed in that one. In my opinion, wait till they release one with a faster arm processor, which can't be too far away.

um, even an overclocked Casio is no match for a bone-stock iPAQ. The Mips FPU just plain sucks, and PQ still contains quite a bit of floats.

I also wouldn't go with an iPAQ. So far the new Casio (StrongARM) kicks the most ass, with the new Jornada being a close second. But this is based soley on the playing around I have done with demo models at the store (yes, I am a loser and hang out there for an hour playing with the new devices).

Snails runs damn Sweet on those 2002 machines.

On my overclocked ipaq i get 9 to 13 fps in single palyer maps that come with quake and about 15 to 22 in optimized maps. I find it fun but the more bots you add in an optimized dm map the slower it goes. Also in order to play custom maps and bots you have to have a registered version of quake. So if you have the cd your fine. :)
