So how do I unzip on my Pocket PC

So how do I unzip on my Pocket PC

Postby confused » Jan 2, 2002 @ 6:38pm

Ok so I figured out that the files for Pocket Quake need to be extracted to certain directories... but how do you unzip a file on a Pocket PC? In activesynce it only allows me to view the properties of the file. I'm probably asking a stupid question, but on the other hand I haven't found a Pocket PC WinZip yet. Thanks

You should unzip them before you send them

DEXplor allows you to Zip / Unzip on a Pocket PC. It also support gZip! It's $13.95, and is at http://dex-plor.com You can also create shortcuts to PQ to call up custom games. It is also handy to use the file association editor to associate .cfg files to Pocket Word so you can easily edit your Quake config files on your Pocket PC. And, I hear the author of DEXplor will be releasing Pocket Quake 2 in the next week or so.

Dan East

Thanks for the info on the app Dan. To Rob: That's what I did previously and it didn't work. The instructions say to put the file into the quake/ID1 directory, then extract. So it seems the only way to accomplish this is to have a ZIP program on the Pocket PC.

I believe that it is refering to the pak0.pak file (although I am not sure). So, you have 2 options..
1. Get dex-plor (which I would recomend even if you don't use this option. Dex-plor is an amasing piece of software that no ppc should be without).
2. Make sure the pak file (i.e. pak0.pak) either has the extension .pak or .pak.gzp . It should have been downloaded as pak0.pak.zip, meaning that you need to unzip it once to get it in the pak0.pak.gzp. To do this you can use winzip or any other windows extractor. After it is unziped, you should send it to /quake/ID1 and it will be on your device correctly.

I tried to load a 8.1MB pako.pak file and it told me that I must have a registered copy to play modified games. I thought this was freeware. What gives????

The port, PocketQuake, is freeware; i.e. you dont have to pay for the EXE. The game Quake, however, is Shareware. Get a copy of Quake1, 2 and 3 at a store near you. Shouldnt cost more than 20$!

You know, I feel kind of bad: I want to buy a copy of DexPlor, it sounds really cool, but I already own a copy of Resco File Explorer, and I can't justify spending $14 on another utility. D@mn. I was looking forward to it, too.

Is there any chance for it to be ported to teh 720. The 720 actually has a good file explorer (much better than any ppc), but it could really use some of Dex-Plor's other features.

I know, wrong message board.

Yeah Dan, I got my key, and the app works great. Now all I need is more memory to actually hold more than two apps on my IPAC....... time to buy a memory card.
