I would recommend trying the ready-to-go pak file found on the . You will get that error if the file is corrupted or truncated. I don't know what you used to gzip the pak file, but PQ may not be able to decompress it.

Dan East

[sup][color=blue]Last modification: Dan East - 01/04/02 at 11:04:52

I've just tried the pak file uncompressed and it still doesn't work - what have I done wrong?

Here's my directory structure:

\Quake
pocketquake.exe
\quake\id1
pak0.pak
autoexec.cfg

i'm pretty sure the pak file on the website is the original pak0. the one for the shareware version. so it should work okay. no pop.lmp needed.

if you want, download the desktop quake demo and use the pak file from that. just it by dragging the file onto the gzip.exe file...

I have the full version of Quake on CD-ROM - on that disc there's a quake_sw directory which contains the shareware version - I've copied the .pak file from there without gzipping it this time and PocketQuake still doesn't work.

I don't think there's any difference between the registered pak0.pak and the shareware pak0.pak files anyway though....any ideas?!

well this is very strange. if you're using the original shareware pak0.pak it should work fine.

i cant think of anything. since you have desktop quake, i want you to open the pak1.pak file, goto the gfx folder and get the pop.lmp file. now put that file in this directory on your ppc:

quake\id1\gfx

that should fix the problem. although there shouldnt even be a problem.

I had the same problem, it appears the the full version Quake pak0.pak file will not work without the pak1.pak file. The shareware one will however.
