PQII demo pak

PQII demo pak

Postby Tha_Playa » Dec 27, 2001 @ 12:13am

it seems it might not be possible to make a smaller pak file, ive tried everything, but it doesn't work, is there any difference between the demo exe and fulll version exe? or is the demo a cut down version of the full pak0.pak. This is really bugging me, the file must have to b an exact size or something..

Sorry if it looked like that, i just thought that if the source was released it would be counted as freeware now :\. well anyway, i was just going to note differences between the demo and full version ones, i'm not asking you for the full pak file.

well what if you guys did this... replaced all the file you want to delete with a 1kb text file renamed to the file you are getting rid of. Then Q2 will search for the files in the pak, and it will still find them. Its at least worth a shot.

i'll try it but it just seems that any changes mess it up - even removing demos - and its not like q2 needs those to run or that it would even check for specific demo filenames.

i tried downsampling all the sounds in the sounds/beserk directory, and it still came up with the error, maybe theyve locked the demo version, looks like i'll have to shell out the $3.50 to buy it, oh well.

I do see an option in the Q2 source that checks the checksum of the pak. If it doesn't match then the pak is not loaded. However that was disabled by default in the source id Software released. So I don't know what settings the shareware exe was built with, or if it is different from the registered exe.

Dan East

i tried replacing them with 1k files on my registered version too and its still the same error. i guess it must use checksium as well - thats where it adds up the sizes right?

perhaps they enabled it in the finished exes but disabled it in the source? so the paks i'm making probably will work with pq2 but i cant tell because i dont have it...

would you be able to compile that file without the checksum and email it to me? or would that be counted as illegal, if it isn't i'd like to get my hands on it for testing purposes.
