Quake 2 Ported to Pocket PC

I reguard to the CF vs. MD, I believe that they are either about the same price (for the 512) or the CF card is cheaper. That's just what I remember when I was looking through a magizine looking at them. Keep in mind the CF card is TYPE I, and the MD is TYPE II, so the md might not fit in your ppc without the PCMCIA card adamptor. At least that's the case with the 720. My rec is 256 though. I could never see using 256megs of storage space on the ppc at the present time.

you could put a movie or 2 in there, that would soon fill up 256mb
Why?

I don't understand what's so complicated with "cannot load pics\colormap.pcx".. just don't delete that specifice file when you clean the pak-file

The colormap is there for specifing the colors (q2 only have 255 colors) in the game.

GG so far and GL with the conversation Dan!
BTW, what is the url to the PocketQuake site?

Are you guys playing around with the shareware or the full version? Because one of my friends owns Quake II and I could do some experimenting for you if you wanted me to.

i really would like the compiled exe or gamex86.dll to test with, i want to see how far i can strip the pak without losing to much playability, also see how i can make it run on my AMD k6-2 333, which has the brainpower of a p150 (*sigh) so it might be a good reference point (they also had next to nothing FPU)

Davinci; what make is the 512 mb card you have? Sandisk? I looked up what these cost: $ 450 USD Hello!

For that kind of cash I could buy two ipaqs...
I also searched for the prices here in the Netherlands, and came to some strange conclusions:

A 128 mb card costs 230,- Guilders
A 256 mb card costs 480,-

So if I buy two 128 mb cards, I save 20,-

If I take sandisks price and convert it, it comes to around 1123,- Guilders

So If I buy two 256 mb cards, I pay 960,- and thus save around 163,- [which buys me another 64 mb card]

So if you don't need back-to-back storage for say movies, it's actually cheaper to buy loose cards then one big one..

Bjorn,

This is not unique for CF. The same price relation is valid for most kinds of memory (SDRAM, IDE hard drices etc). You always pay a premium for the biggest units. The logic is that they are worth more because they pack a higher capacity in one slot/drive bay/whatever. This makes them more "future proof" and less limiting to future upgrades. It's always nice to have some slots free, so you can put more in without having to take something out.

I thought about that too, but for PDA's it doesn't really matter. Most of us don't have a dual CF or built in CF slot and whatever else that might allow you to use more then one card.

Also, most of us don't intend to watch movies on it, so you don't need all this volume in one large chunk. Besides, multiple cards make backups possible. I also have a 32 mb card, which is perfect for that sort of thing. I think that when Q2 comes out, I'll pick up one of those 128 mb cards for it.

I just realized something, Half-ife uses the Quake 2 engine... Coutner Strike runs on half-life...
