I saw an interesting picture of a chap who had his face grind off by the asphault he kissed doing an endo. His head looked like an eraser that was only used on one side, at a 45deg angle. Needless to say, it was a closed casket for that ceremony.

Moving on, Warren, that Porsche is cool, but it's always made me wonder why they tried the front engine placement. I find the RX7 much better in that area, and it's just as competitive in it's own right. Besides, doesn't this 944 have those horrid "Frog Eye" headlights when they flip up? I passed one in the rain once and was wondering what the hell it was doing so far up on dry land. It looked like it shoulda been underwater like a personal sub or something.
I mean hondas and harleys, mines a Suzuki. I dont get bugs in my teeth or my face ground off, thats why they invented the full face helmet. As for those who write off bikes, try them first. They are much more fun than cars, faster and cheaper.
Rob

PS. No i am not a palm user before you even think of it, i have an EM-500.

Yep, bikes smoke cars in speed and off the line. I bet you'd be fascinated to see a japanese report on one of their bikes vs. a porsche. I forgot the models, but this specific porsche won off the line, and the race, although just barely.

The kind of bike you ride isn't popular here in SoCal. These streets are ruled by Harley's, afterall we're the home state of the "Hell's Angels" ;) I see about 5 Harleys for every 1 "Rice Rocket" (as we call them).

One thing I do like about bikes, is the physics. I've read once you hit 100+mph, your front wheel is no longer touching the ground. Turns are accomplished by leaning, and the air pressure around you is what's keeping you balanced (as if in a slot). Pretty dope.

Anyhow, I live in the hustle and bustle of the city, and traffic driving is just barely tolerable with a Stick-Shift. A bike of any sort is highly discouraged for daily use in this sort of lifestyle. They're mainly for weekend drives up the coast.
Hey everyone! I just got back from NYC for Independence Day. I stayed there for 4 days. I live near Boston, so NYC is real close (although the far majority of the people have NEVER gone on a vacation, at least half the people in my town have never been to Boston!!!). I've been to NYC a trillion times, I know NYC better than Boston! The weird thing is, there are SOOOOOO many super hot chics in NYC! Well, they are compared to the "girls" in my town. I thought I was really picky before, but now, at least in New York City, I can't open my eyes without seeing a really hot chic! And another thing, there are SO many Mercedes S-Classes and BMW 7-series everywhere! I even saw a Mercedes Mayback!! That's a V24 limo size sedan well over $1,000,000.00USD! I saw a bunch of BMW M3 sedans, the new ones, they're SO awesome! But the amount of Benz S-Classes are insane, every street corner you'll see one. I don't think I've ever seen one in Boston or anywhere around me, they're over $120,000. I saw 3 Broadway shows there, Annie Get Your Gun, Phantom Of The Opera, and Les Misérables, all real good. I saw a bunch of Suzuki crotch rockets in NYC, they're pretty neat, but I'd prefer a Ducati, they're faster, and Italian. OHH!! I have to tell you guys suttin'! For you people that live in the Northeast, you'll be very aware of POTHOLES, and in NYC, RIGHT in front of my hotel, there was the biggest pothole I have ever seen!! (and Massachusetts streets are real bad, but nothing like NYC!) This thing was at least .75 - 1 foot deep, and about 1.5 - 2 feet diameter. We found it by, well, going over it! We only have about 3" of ground clearance, so we scraped the bottom, but no damage was dealt. So everyday, we'd sit on a standpipe (it's the only place to sit in NYC, but now they're putting barbed wire around them, who knows why) and watch cars go over it, it was hilarious! Even the big buses were going over it, bouncing all over the place. The taxis just flew over it, but other cars scraped the ground. Randall, you used to live in NYC, did you know that it's now illegal to sell knishes on the street!! Who knows why, but I had to buy them under the table (if you know what I mean). I only had 2, but I had a HUGE meat knish at the Carnagie. They're also trying to make it illegal to sell hot dogs on the street too! Oh, and since the last time I was there (2 years ago), they've like, kicked out the bums on the streets! And even in the subway! Last time, there were as many bums as normal people, but now there's none! What happened! And what about the old grannies in the subway with submachine guns in their bags! No more!! (last time I saw this old women with an Uzi in her bag, pretty cool) Oh, I even saw 2 Mercedes CL-Classes, and MILLIONS of SLK's, Moose. Even the CLK's are everywhere. I saw a bunch of Porsche 996 911 Carreras and Boxsters. I think I saw a Turbo also. But out of all these super expensive cars, I didn't see a single Corrado :-(

Yeah, in NYC you don't see too many cars under $60,000 or over 3 years old. Benz, and BMW for as far as the eye can see (no faggy Lexus, Toyotas or Hondas). Like I said, you have to RENT a parking space to park at your townhouse ($350 - $500 a month)

I lived there two years ago, and we bought knishes all the time. It's a bummer they are trying to outlaw Hotdog stands, that's one of my favorite NY landmarks. I didn't see too many bums while I was there... they seemed to gather on the west side near the meat district.

We lived in the Hilton Hotel on 6th ave (by Rockerfeller Center and the Radio City Music Hall) for a month until we found a place to live. We finally moved into a brand new building at One Union Square (14th street and Park avenue). THAT was the best neighborhood to live in. It was right above a huge Cinema, and Virgin records (saw Jennifer Lopez there- she's not all that in real life).

Anyway, we had a huge private terrace that was big enough to skateboard and rollerblade around. Our monthly rent for the place was around $5000.

(sigh)... I'll get back to Manhattan one of these days. You're lucky you live so close, Warren.

Randall, unfortunately, there were a few of those now Lexus convertables. I saw one up close, and it's not that great. Actually, right next to it, was a Mercedes CLK convertable, and both had the tops up. I realized that the Lexus's top was the EXACT same dimentions as the Mercedes. I looked at the top hinges where the hard top folds, and there identical, and the Mercedes are like a '95 or '96. So I suspect that Lexus just took the Mercedes parts, made molds for them, and made them for themselves. They've admitted to doing that before, and it looks like they still at it. And you know that a copy is never as good as the original. Ever time I stay at NYC, I always end up staying right near the Empire State Building, around 35th and 6th. This time I was right across the street from it, which was nice becasue there's an awesome real cheap sushi restaurant there. It's Daikisuki Sushi if you go there. My dad took 3 wasabi packets, put it in soy sauce, and shoved it in his mouth for the last sushi piece. He didn't feel any pain (it's only the first few that kills you, then the body andorphines kick in), but the whole back of his tongue swelled real huge. He paniced because he thought he was going to sufficate, but he drank put soda and it went down. It was pretty funny. I've gotten bad nose bleeds, and up to the point where your ears ring REAL loud and almost pop, where you can actually feel it in your brain, but I've never had my tongue swell. I've burned my esophogus bright bright red plenty of times though, with gushing nose bleeds. My dad kept a packet for the next day in the morning to wake him up. The next morning, he was very tired, so he open the wasabi and squirted it in his mouth, and well, it woke him up, lol. The thing I don't like to do on vacations is look like a tourist. Like, where ever my dad just stops and looks up (looking up in NYC is the most touristy thing you can do), I just look up for a second. I'm not like those tourist people that if they bump into you on the sidewalk they say "Oh!! Sorry sorry!!" Because a New Yorker wouldn't do anything. One time when I saw crossing the street, this car came up to me and honked wilding and threatened to run me over (he did bump into my leg), so I just gave him the finger and he stopped right there, because he thought I would have a gun. This wouldn't happen in Boston, people are slighty more patient. I think it was on Broadway, where this guy was too impatient, and drove up onto the sidewalk to pass the guy in front of him, the people on the sidewalk had to jump out of the way. I'm goin' to LA in August, I wonder if it's like this there too. Hey Randall, where do you live now?

This real fat guy at the Carnegie had a 1 foot high sandwich! He didn't finish it though. Did you know that they now charge $3.00 bucks for sharing a sandwich! My meat knish was about 8 inches in diameter and about 5 inches high, it had pastrami and corned beef in it. As for being a "New Yorker", that's exactly what I did, walk fast. I stayed at the Avalon Hotel I think on 34th and 6th. It was pretty nice, and reasonably priced at $200 a night. I know about parking prices in NY, it's the same in Boston. New York and Boston are the 2 most expensive in the US, average $29 an hour. It's insane at Logan Airport (Boston's main airport), which is, if I can remember, $50 for the first half hour, $40 for each half hour after that, it's $550 for a 5-day week, $750 for a 7-week day, and I think $3,000 for a month. Insanity.

I live in Seattle now. It's alot slower paced here.

I forgot to comment about the Carnegie Deli that is right around the corner from the Hilton (which is why I started mentioning it before). Carnegie has the most badass sandwiches I have ever had. How tall are they stacked with meat? 8 to 10"? They brought me another loaf of bread so I could make "mini" sandwiches out of it.

I don't remember what hotel is near the Empire State building, but I spent many hours in that area of town on 5th ave.

Go into the camera shops in that area and you can usually dicker with the prices and come out with a pretty nice, cheap laptop. I suppose they sell Pocket PCs in those camera shops now. It might be a good place to pick up CF cards and microdrives.

Don't buy anything for the asking price though. They are a little too high.

If you want to look like a New Yorker, wear dark colors, and walk FAST.

At first I thought New Yorkers were rude, but they aren't. That is just the way they talk. It gets you more respect and people know you are serious when you are negotiating. I think they just get tired of tourists coming in and acting like they own the place, just because they have alot of money.

I can't even describe all the nice cars I saw while I lived there. Stuff shipped in from all over the world.

Just make sure you tip EVERYONE. Even the old man that hands you the towel in the bathroom.
Last modification: randall - 07/08/01 at 13:34:42

Hehe, hey Goose, I think anyone not your age looks 37 to you right now ;)

I agree with Warren, she's in her mid 20s.

This is a nice example of poor photography, neither the bike nor the model are properly lit in this shot. Her makeup isn't helping anything because it doesn't have any light to reflect, so it's doing more harm than good. Look at the bike, you lose all definition in the front end. If it were properly lit, every angle and curve would be visible. I've had to sit through this process before, and it can take hours to light something right. It takes a lot of mirrors, let me tell ya ;)

Anyhow, she's in her mid 20s, I'd say 27 tops.
I agree with the lighting. Being a mapper, you have to know a lot about light reflections. In this picture, it almost seems to be total ambient light (total light from all angles with no definitive light source). You can see it best from the front of the bike and the bike's lack of shadow. But who really cares when you can almost see her pu**y from her left leg ;-) How naughty...
