If it's an independent life form, that can have independent action, and this life form lives in or has a symbiosis relation with a host, it can be classified as a parasite. Like bateria and virus. We don't call it parasite if it has a benefecial relationship with the host. Mithocondria are a (let's say) "organ" of animal cells. If you have too much of those (or too little, like anything in life), it's harmful. You can't increase your mithocondria in number so that your cells wil breath better. With this midi-chlorian, if it is some sort of life form, you can. That's why it sounds like an infection. Ok, it's not in infection because the host gains the ability to levitate starfighters out of swamps. And that I think is a kickass ability. Not needing to use a jack on a flat tire would be enough to me.
