Power source

Power source

Postby Luciano U. Werner » Aug 25, 2001 @ 2:19pm

Guys, I want to buy a second power source for my iPAQ 3670. The original from Compaq, has a DC output of 5V and 2A. As these Compaq stuff are really expensive here in Brazil, I was thinking of using an equivalent. I know it sounds as a dumb question, but is it absolutely necessary to be exactly 5V/2A? I've heard you could use one with less amps.

Just don't get one with more V or A than the iPaq uses. You may end up burning it up.

...and it will melt, of course. The LCD particles will explode, flying away like hot popcorn in a pan. The buttons will start to melt too, but they will fall in the floor, making a hole in the carpet. The stylus pen will fly way from the slot and will hit that vase on the table, making it fall over that cat that is sleeping in the chair, and that will be sad.
So, my point is: Watch out :D

~

That I can't use more then 5V and 2A I already figured out. I wanna know if I could use less then that without problems.
And thanks, Diego, I'll not connect my iPAQ directly to a wall socket.
If you haven't warned me...
:P

I thought i heard somewhere on these forums that you can give it less power, but the battery will still run down, only a lot slower.

Don't take my word for it though :)

ya, anything close, higher or lower will work. The problem is, to high and it'll eventually burn out your ppc. And too low, it'll eventually burn out the adapter. And don't joke on my huge batteries.

well I think those would be pretty kick ass to throw on that "empty" sleeve that comes with all ipaq's and make it an extender. But for a Casio or a @migo, you are better off buying a spare battery. BTW, do you think the casio and @migo battery use the same voltage? Cause if they do, casio owners could fit a more powerfull @migo battery($30) into their casio. If you were really lucky, the battery contacts would match up. I will look around for more info.
