I love my casio but....

I love my casio but....

Postby XX » Sep 8, 2001 @ 10:38pm

I bought Casio E-125 in hope I can go to all my classes with it and forget my notebook entirely. In some classes it is very possible but in others where you have a lot of mathematical calculations it is hard. MS word simply doesn't have the symbols I need. Does anyone know of a program that will allow you to write mathematical expressions? Now that would be very cool.

and how about java editor? I doubt there is a compiler but a simple editor would be very nice to have...

thanx in advance

i love gadgets and everything but people who are trying to 'replace their notebooks' with a ppc is ridiculous. its so much faster and easier with paper. never mind.

sounds like you need a program like character map...

A few months ago, I saw a thing for Palm units that was sweet. It was a notepad, with a special pen, that you could take notes on - and they would be transferred to your Palm as you write them. Now, I never opened the box, and couldn't really see if info was transferred via IR, or some sort of connection. But, that would be really sweet for PPC, I think. To be able to layout your notes on the PPC, as written in class/meetings, would be awesome for recall purposes.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Have you seen it for PPC?

the ibm transnote - i've got a review in a magazine. its an a4 notepad with a palm (or even laptop if you want) on the other side of the pad.

you can link it to any kind of device that supports the software. i think it just saves them as graphic files without converting them though.

Just how fast I got to write with my pocket pc. If it is regular text I can write on pocket pc just as fast as I can write on a piece of paper. In courses where no special characters are needed pocket pc is perfect but in those that require mathematical expressions I simply don't have the characters. Pocket PC can easily replace a laptop at note-taking department if it has right software.

XX, simple solution: Use your own handwriting. In Microsoft Pocket Word you can go in and WRITE it out, like you do on paper, and it will be treated as a picture. This is how I do most stuff like that.

You can use normal text editors for Java, can't you? Like Pocket Notepad (by Illansoft?) or just Notes or Pocket Word.

There is also a program called CoolCalc available that will give you all the complex functions of scientific and graphic calculators (minus the graphing functions, i think).

But a PocketPC will never replace a pad of paper, a pencil, and your own head.

You can write a whole paper in your own handwriting and then request it to "recognize" it into typed text. Of course, that will probably be full of errors but its one method you can use.

I'm not sure exactly what symbols you are looking for, but you can check out fitaly:

http://www.fitaly.com/wince/pocketpcfitaly.htm

it covers all of the symbols I need.
