Why dont PPC's have this function?

Why dont PPC's have this function?

Postby Matt Keys » Oct 24, 2001 @ 6:15pm

I don't know where all of you carry your PocketPC, but I carry mine in my pocket;) And because of this, buttons get pressed(especially with the @migo) It is very annoying to have it turn on in your pocket and run down all your batteries before you even use it. Which brings me to my point, why no "hold" button. You know the one, like what cd players have so when a button is pressed it doesnt do anything. this would be a great feature, at least for me, how about you guys?

Yes I think this would be a great feature. Can it be done through software though?, like pressing the action 1 and action 2 button AT the same time would bring the device out of hold?

are you sure this cant be set? i'm sure theres something in media player to do this... i think maybe i turned on the hp game buttons so they dont work in media player - that pretty much does it.<br><br>you'd think this would be a feature now that phones have them.

I am starting to think almost everything with a button has a hold feature, except PocketPC's, and this is what I need it for the most. I wish I could talk to some of the PocketPC developers and fill them in on what the people want.

I use a totally enclosed case, and i never have my ppc buttons get pressed. Check out the iSuit at circut city. That use to happen with my ipaq slip-case but this $25 constructed from leather and rubber foam prevents it.

I have that problem all the time. Just today, I went out to the bus when school was over, got on the bus, and said "I can't wait to listen to Mushroomhead, MuDvAyNe, Linkin Park, or Rammstein", and I get out my PPC (which is always in my right pocket), and it was ON, with the power warning on (the one that says system hardware is being overused or something)!! I press ok, and it turns off, and when I turn it back on, it turns off again. This happens commonly, and there should be a fix for it.

Yes, never heard of mushroomhead, but great music!  Might want to try Staind, Disturbed, or maybe slipknot also.<br><br>---Pertaining to the topic---<br><br>I always leave my ipaq in my cradle throughout the night.  Sometimes, say 1 out of every 10 days I will wake up with my ipaq turned on...its so bright it wakes me up.  The ipaq will turn on out of nowhere...this doesn't happen very often and could probably be prevented by a hold button or program.<br><br>Has anyone else ever experienced that happening?

ideot, that may be happening from your ppc turning on at 12am and you not having the auto power off when plugged in enabled.

I suppose it would be possible to write an app that would, for example, require that after the device is powered up an additional hardware key  / onscreen control must be pressed within a few seconds or the device will be turned off.<br>The problems would be that 1) most devices wake up at midnight to roll the calendar forward and process the next day's schedule, etc, and 2) scheduled events wake the device up for it to sound an alarm. Shutting the device back off immediately would interfere with both those events.<br><br>Why don't you guys try reducing the power-off time to 1 minute under the Power settings? I carry my iPaq all the time in my pockets with no case of any kind, and have never had such a power-on problem. The iPaq's hardware buttons are recessed, so perhaps it is less prone to inadvertent button presses.<br><br>Dan East

Wow Dan do you even use the slip case? If not how do you put your ipaq in your pocket and not screw the screen up at all?<br>

No, because it isn't large enough for my CF sleave, and I'm too lazy to use it. :) The screen is perfect - except for the dust inside it. I just make sure I don't stick my car keys, loose change or shards of broken glass and steel wool in the same pocket as my iPaq.<br><br>Dan East

I was wondering why my screen is so scratched. I guess I need to start keeping my shards of broken glass and steel wool in my other pocket. Thanks for the tip Dan :). Although, I have found that appropriate proportions of steel wool to glass will keep the scratches buffed down pretty good.<br><br>Isn't there some way to make the hard buttons not turn on the PPC? I think I have seen that somewhere.
