Pocket Quake 2 Released

Pocket Quake 2 Released

Postby Dan East » Jan 17, 2002 @ 1:56am

Okay, here's the deal. Pocket Matrix's old host prematurely shut down. So dex-plor.com, and the rest of Pocket Matrix (except for the new forums) are down. Well, they're not down, they're just not accessible through their domain names. The email accounts at pocketmatrix.com and dex-plor.com are down.

So, I'm going to go ahead and release PQ2 anyway. The quake.pocketmatrix.com site is down for now, so I'll just provide the download links. The source will be released tomorrow. There's just too much going on at the moment for me to get to archiving it all up tonight.

Now, I will say it again - it only runs around 5 FPS, and it will run even slower depending on what you are currently viewing.

The installer includes MIPS and ARM executables. SH3 is not available at this time.

If you post the PQ2 download URLs on other sites (PocketGamer, etc), please include the URL of the pocket matrix forums, which is: http://forums.pocketmatrix.com/

[admin edit: It's safe to use forums.pocketmatrix.com now]

The executable installer [850kb]:
http://www.dexplor.com/downloads/pquake ... quake2.exe

The shareware pak0.pak file [33MB]:
http://www.dexplor.com/downloads/pquake2/pak0.pak.zip

He said 14 MB before. I don't know. It has crashed all the time for me. It doesn't work very well. I don't know why, either. I have plenty of ram. Oh well. I got it to work like two times for awhile before it crashed.

Thanks Dan! You have got to be the only developer that actually keeps any of his promises.

Robo its probably ram problems, i notice whenever it chraches it says something abou z_malloc (wich is a c memmory allocation function) cant allocate byte blah blah.

an i dunno if you know about this but it crashes when you try to multiplayer, i think it wants more ram becuase it gives me that z_malloc error like it does when i start it with under 20mb free.

I am pretty sure that when it crashes it doesn't let Pocket PC OS reclaim some of the ram, so it gets an error when trying to allocate memory. I think you must soft reset your Pocket PC almost every time it crashes. That's okay for me because it only takes about 7 seconds for my Pocket PC to do a soft reset.

Of course, you need the gx.dll file put into your Windows folder in order for pq2 to work.

For me, it crashes when I try to start a new game. So, all that works for me is the demo, and even that crashes after a few minutes.

This is great! Dan you rock

What would make it better is a pack file that would fit on my pocket pc...

I know I know, I need to get a cf sleve and card, blah blah blah...

So if anyone has a smaller pack that would be great.

happy fragging...

man, I can't believe you are fitting it without any sleeve; you must have nothing on your Pocket PC! lol. Well Im downloading it now, hopefully it won't crash too much. I have about 14mb free memory for running it.
