There are all kinds of weapons that kill with a single attack, but none of them are guaranteed unless you have a strategic plan. Even the teargas won't do much if you miss your target or don't pay attention to the wind.

Chain reactions, are certainly fun when they work out. It is normal strategy to blow up one snail, and have the sparks hit another. I think the most I have killed in a single shot is 4 (plus one of my own). This requires alot more accuracy and thinking than blowing a snail into a landmine.

There are all kinds of sneaky tricks you can learn. These Snails will do anything to win, even cheat a little if they have to.

suggestions

Postby johannpublic » Jan 27, 2002 @ 11:15pm

I like the 5-second move timer in most cases...just make it optional.

An on-PDA level-editor would be nice, if possible.

more "burrowing" type weapons (like in "that other game", jackhammers and blowtorches were loads of fun)

cheats! (nuke strikes cost a lot, it would be nice to have multiple. heh...)

More than just 2 teams playing at once! unless that's going to be saved for snails 2 (let's hope this won't turn into a situation where it isn't perfect until they make the "armageddeon" version...)

righto. I'm sure i can find a few other random little things to add, but damnably great game, anyway. This and PQ are the MUST HAVE games for pocketpc

An odd request

Postby ShALLaX » Jan 27, 2002 @ 11:27pm

Hey, on the next update could you make the background of the snails icon transparent rather than white. Its just that since I got paid, I decided to buy some PPC software, namely snails and dashboard. Unfortunately the white around the snails icon obstructs some of the skinning (hey it gets annoying). So Peter, if you could do this, I'd be very grateful (it cant be that hard :P)

I honestly don't know how we are going to do the custom map thing. We really didn't need an editor. As long as you had an image editor that could save as a 24-bit BMP you were ready to go.

These simplistic cartoonish backgrounds worked perfectly with our compression algorithm. It is very easy for the levels to become massive, unmanagable files. I found out early in the project that highly detailed and photorealism didn't work at all, because the files were just plain huge. Even dithering and blends make the files too large.

So I can imagine many people out there going hog-wild with the graphics creating beautiful scenery. Unfortunately only people with 16+ free RAM will be able to play them.
