Postby ppcuser » Feb 9, 2002 @ 8:51pm

HI
i have the full version of quake1.
first i installed the pocketquake exe in a folder on my ppc.
then i installed the pak0.pak (18mb) in the id1 folder on my ppc. then the autoexec thingy in the pocketquake folder and the config in the id1 folder. but if i start pocketquake now it says :W_LoadWadFile: couldn't load gx.wad
what did i do wrong?
( i have a pak1.pak with 33megs too.. but its too big for my ppc )

You put the PAK file in the wrong place. I'm thinking that you installed them all to \My Documents\quake\ID1. They shoudl be in \quake\ID1. Check to make sure, as when you "Explore" the device it automatically starts you in the My Documents folder.

This will be the second time I've responded in decent fashion to your insolence, red alert. Here it is, if you can't get it this time then you're on your own.
The files need to be in \quake\ID1 or \Storage Card\quake\ID1, NOT in \My Documents\quake\ID1. When you first open up the File Explorer, either through ActiveSync or on the device itself it starts you in \My Documents\ Make sure you go up one more directory by double-clicking on \My Device (when exploring through ActiveSync) or by selecting it from the drop-down menu (from the File Explorer on your PocketPC). The files cannot be in any other location. If you still get the error message then make sure you unZIPped, but not unGZipped the PAK file. It should be pak0.pak.gz or pak0.pak, but it won't be read as pak0.pak.gz.zip, which is how it is downloaded from the website. If you unZIPped the files but are STILL having problems, maybe you should redownload the PAK file as it could be corrupt.

Oh, and ppcuser. I'd prefer it if you'd quit saying "it don't work," as it gives me a headache. Why don't you try "it doesn't work" if you must use a contraction at all.
