Virus Warning Whilst Installing Update ????

Wotcha Folks,

I had the update a while before it was posted from Peter and it installed and I thought all was fine. My pocket PC (Compaq Ipaq 3660) started playing up at the time but I thought nothing of it. I then bought McAfee virus scan and have since re-formatted my IPAQ and was re-installing the game, all went well, but on installing the up date it tolg me

'The File CEINST.EXE is infected with the IRC-Sdbotvirus.
FILE PATH: C:\PROGRAM FILES\SYNTACT\SNAILS UPD...
Status: Infected'

The only option it gave me was to delete it (the clean option states it cannot clean the file).

Has anyone else found this ? My McAfee program updated tonight so it may be a new virus? I have no idea, please help.

well.. that doesn't mean that ceinst.exe was the original host ... it could have been infected by another file.

I have since scanned my hard drive and found nothing. Upon trying to re-install the Snails update McAfee pops up when it unpacks the Cab file or something ? Freezing the install progress as it can't find a required file (after its been deleted).

Where can I download a different version of the Update from, the one I have was sent to me.

I bought Snails and really like it. However, I experienced the same virus warning when I downloaded the update from the official website. McAffee said I had to delete the file and I did. I then downloaded the update again and tried running install but it would not let me run the ceinstall.exe program anymore off my desktop. I then copied the MIPS cab file (I have a casio e-125) to my casio and ran the cab file directly. It seemed to install ok and when I go into Remove Programs in the Settings, it shows that the update is installed, however, as I can't seem to find a version number on the game itself (including the About menu)I can't verify that it actually installed. I do know that the features that were supposed to be added to the game do not seem to be there. There is no volume slider, I cannot use the menu when the other side is moving, in the options there is no falling damage option etc. I really don't think it installed.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thats exactly what happens on my computer ! It doesn't sound like the work around you've done for patch has installed properly, but I'm gonna try doing it that way on mine.

I'd really like a fix for this as I'm still playing the old version and the new one was so much better (for the few days before my Pocket PC went nuts).

Any developers out there reading this thread ?

Incidentally I forgot to say I d/ld the Patch from the site and I get exactly the same thing. I also use McAfee and it is pretty sure its a virus, I've even run the virus checker through WinZip (still McAfee, but intergrated) and it found the virus in the file as well.

Cheers for the reply, still can't install it. It installs fine without the Virus software but then my Ipaq screw up and wipe its memory every time I warm reset the damn thing (kept getting a filesys.exe fatal error message ??), so I'd rather not install it that way. Also I've had the patch from 2 places, I got my first copy directly from Mr Balough himself before release and the second I downloaded from the site.

Ah well, I'll just wait till the next update I suppose, but thanks for your help.
