Everyone knows ho much I bitch about the PPC gaming industry, and how I am severely disappointed in the offerings that big companies like Zio, Jimmy and Monkeyboner have. Any success these companies have seen is through the porting or publishing of another title.
I don't know if Zio is acting solely as the "publisher" behind Espresso Run, since there is another company listed in the credits. But if this is any indication of the direction they want to follow, I am all for it.
Espresso Run is a fairly simplistic game. But the graphics and music are top notch. The worlds are beautifully rendered with funky creatures and terrains. I'm not a music major, but it seems to be something jazzy and upbeat- not moronic techno-crap like I had expected.
I think your vehicle is pretty much indestructable- if you hit the walls too many times, then a crate of beans fall out of your trailer. This requires you to either go pick it up, or forego the bonus at the end. Quite an original concept for penalties I think.
Since this thing is a hovercraft, your vehicle tends to drift and bounce off everything in sight. Being a hovercraft kind of means you don't have any brakes, but the rotation of the vehicle is smooth, allowing a quick 180 reverse thrust to slow down or stop.
I haven't played the game that much, so I can't give full details. My first impressions were very good, which is pretty hard to come by.
I'd recommend that people at least give this title a whirl- it may not be everyone cup of tea (er, coffee), but it is definately worth a look.
