Have you had to return your PDA yet?

Postby David Horn » Mar 3, 2002 @ 12:27pm

Has anyone here had to return a PDA under warranty? Which PDA and how may times?

My iPAQ is being repaired for...
1) Dust under the screen
2) Problem with the speaker output going straight to the headphone jack (painful...)
3) Battery Problems.

Maybe we can work out which is the most reliable Pocket PC.

Woohoo, I am the first to vote!
Anyway, I have an E-125 that I bought used about a year ago. I have had no problem with it other than the battery needs to be replaced now. But considering it was used when I got it, that is no big deal, especialy since it only costs $35, and I can replace it myself, unlike many other PPC's.

I voted that I've not returned anything yet. However, any "normal" user would have returned this iPaq by now because of the large amount of dust, as well as the stylus doesn't stay locked into position. Basically the two problems expected with any of the first run, first generation iPaqs. I haven't returned it because I literally cannot do without a Pocket PC for a single day because of development and support issues for my software.

I have returned my ipaq 3650 plenty of times like 7 or 8 due to bad batteries, dead pixels, dust, etc.

erth - did they manage to fix your 3150? I did ask them to send another stylus though. Whether it'll come is another matter.

My warranty expires in 7 days so I had to get my problems fixed now.

Returned my ipaq soon after I had bought it as the battery life was an amazing 3 minutes :( ! I'm thinking of returning it now actually as my screen is currently very dusty underneath. Also I think the battery's broke again which is where you can help. What would be a typical battery life and under wht conditions (i.e. low bright/super bright/powersave music max volume/no music and cf/no cf sleeve. Also does the cf sleeve severely reduce battery life as I almost always use mine.
Interesting to note that they're basically all ipaqs. Nice one Compaq! I love my ipaq (literally!)but the battery life is down I think snd the screen's as dusty as my loft and I don't want to go thru the rigmarole of sending it Compaq (it was a pain the neck last time).

The speaker went out after I tried to upgrade the ROM on my 3150, so I called up Compaq and they recommended sending it in for repair. It took about a week and I got mine back, in working order with the ROM upgraded already. The battery life I've been experiencing has been well more than I have needed, I'm not an intense user, but I haven't ever been able to spend the time to run the batt down all the way.

CF sleeves don't hurt batteries hardly at all, from what I've seen. I would send it in if the battery won't hold a charge for more than 5 hours of intense use :)
