Great free 3DS loader

Great free 3DS loader

Postby Phantom » Feb 27, 2002 @ 3:33pm

Since so many people seem to be busy with 3D graphics, I thought I should share this link I just found:
http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uli2/index.html
It's a very cool, very simple 3DS loader that can be used to load pretty complex objects.

nah, there's nothing better then a homemade 3ds loader;)
But seriously, I advice you NOT to use .3ds format if possible. There are many better ways to get 3d data then .3ds files. I encourage you to try flexporter or milkshape3d fileformat or sth. .3DS is a short and painfull ride.

And if you ask, I do use .3ds atm, but I'm looking to get out of this "sunking boat" in short time (after core of my engine is working)

Shame google is not my friend :(
Read the whole of the internet and still not found milkshape 3d ascii/binary format file specification!

Milkshape certainly looks like a better alternative to 3dmax for me.

any links would be appreciated
Jim.

I tried it on Google. I entered:
"Milkshape Format Specification".
I clicked the second link, because it looked promising (Jeffs OpenGL tutorial). From that page, I went to the Milkshape download page. You can download an example source there that shows how to load a Milkshape file.
Google IS your friend.
