Luc, I gotta say, the references in X-Men to the comics were pretty good. They stayed true to the relationships and modernized some of it. I really enjoyed it and I am a huge X-Men guy...so I guess we just have to agree to disagree...unless you want to agree that you are wrong? ;)

Well, I expected a different story. They threw in a lot of plot lines (from the comics) so that the comic ignorant could understand who are the XM. IMHO it could have been better, but as I said before, it's a cool movie that someday I'll have in DVD.
I'm really looking forward to see Lord Of The Rings. If it lives up to the hype, it's gonna kick major ass...Last modification: Luciano U. Werner - 12/19/01 at 13:23:14

Blame it on the keyboard...I do.

Yeah, ok, the plot-line was fraught with expanations of the characters. That is always the problem with Star Trek movies too.

First, off I hate "artsy" movies as you call it. Trouble is you've never seen an "artsy" movie Paul. If your idea of an artsy movie, is Tennebaums than that just proves how you don't understand what Im talking about. Wanna see an artsy movie? Go to the met museum of art and sit through flashes on a screen for a half hour. Ive seen it and I hate that shit. However Tennebaums is not artsy, nor is a "comment on society" (do you just pull this shit out of your ass?) In fact if I recall, you did not even see it. At least Ive seen the movies your talking about, I would not feel right to comment if I didnt, and niether should you. In fact, Tennebaums its the furthest thing from a comment on society as the characters are outrageous. The difference is however between a movie like that and Spiderman, is that it took thought. They did not simply take another comic book and make it into a movie. They came up with a unique story, and made an movie with a fresh idea. It does not try to be profound or make some deep statement in any way, in fact its a comedy, so thats not accurate either. Wanna know what the funny part is Paul? They laugh at you. Movies like Spiderman are not thought up by artists, but by a board of chairmen at a film company who knows what kids will buy. They know they have to make Spiderman cause they cant slap Tennebaums on lunch boxes, posters, t-shirts ect.. The best part was that even when I had diner with the special fx producer on Spiderman, he ADMITTED its a shitty movie, and that they do it strictly to make money! But you buy into it. Also I never said these movies are not entertaining, in fact if you re-read what I said, I said they are entertaining, just not good films story wise, or in a cinematography sense. In fact I find it odd that you bashed the one super hero movie that did attempt to really build the characters..Batman. Tim Burton did a great job of not dumbing it up with special FX. He really got into the characters minds. The solitude of Batman, the Pyscho behind joker..and guess what? IT WAS A SMASH HIT! The other Batman movies were not...why? Because they had a different director who chose special fx over story telling. Maybe your to nieve to realize it, but what do you think movies are? THEY ARE STORY TELLING! There roots are the same as the day people would tell stories around campfires and act them out, or like that of theatre. So actually when a trailer dazzles me with eye candy, its actually those movies I DO NOT want to see, becuase there is a reason they are doing that. They are trying to cover up a bad story and "dumb down" their movie for a mass audience. That is why they are not nominated for oscars. Not cause the Oscar group is pretentious, its becuase the know that the whole point of a movie is to tell a GOOD STORY. And there are movies that do that, like Monsters Ball, Fight Club, The Royal Tennebaums, American Beauty, Seven, O Brother Where Art Thou. And if you disagree that those movies are any good than I dont know what to tell you, cause the masses love them. So basicaly there are two routes you can go, make money by something that is already popular and rest on its previous succsess to make your money, or come up with something original that is good and engaging. Either will make you money, I just like the latter more.
