I'd go with Minolta DiMAGE, no questions.

I have decided that I want a camera with a good zoom, but besides the Minolta DiMAGE 7, I haven't seen anything that really fits that. What is most important to me is: Size, Zoom, Quality, and battery life. The DiMAGE 7 wins in zoom so far, it has great quality and decent size, the battery life scares me though. What makes things worst is the fact that the batteries/charger are sold seperatly.

the elph has everying beat as far as size and construction. The quality is VERY good. However, zoom is not to great on it, wish it had a longer zoom length.

I took a peak at the Elph and the Cannon S-40, both very nice looking camera's. I almost wish I could get two, for different occasions. One compact one for keeping in my pocket when I am out and about, and another for things like reviews or shots that need the high quality and zoom. But I don't have that sort of cash to drop:)

As far as reviews the Elph is more than adequate, I use it to take pics of stuff I sell on Ebay. The only reason not to get the elph is if your a photographer for a lving and relying on that camera for your job.

Elph

Postby ABE » Mar 29, 2002 @ 5:19pm

the Elph is a great camera, no doubt about it, but you should know that the Optical zoom on a camera is not the only way to get a longer or wider angle lense most manufacturers sell adapters for the end of the lenses. 2x 3x wide fisheye. One of the best around is Nikkor for the Nikon cameras. I would suggest getting a recently refurbished Nikon for around $300 to $400 they have a small but decent zoom and then with the remainder of the cash getting a lenses adapter. The zoom lengths on a digitial camera are differnet from a regular film camera. They are actually shorter so you can't say the zoom is great on the minolta if for the same cash you could have a smaller camera with a couple of lense adapters, mabe a short zoom and a wide angle. Look up the different adapters at Nikon and assoted other manufactuers, If your interested in the refurushed Nikon let me know and I will walk over to B&H or Alkit and tell you what they have i stock you could then call and tell them you want the camera I set aside for you. I have done this same type of thing for other people.
As for Union Sq. I thinkk I know where it is isn't that that huge park in the middle of town...near the world trade center. That is wher my office is right in the middle of the park...I have adesk and phone there you can stop by I am eating a bagle right now.
