There's one thing about this image that is very interesting in my opinion:
Since Edvard (yeah, with "v") Munch is from Norway, "The Scream" is only one possible translation.
Many people translate the original title with "The Cry", which gives a completely different meaning, I think.
For me, "scream" is something offensive, while "cry" is quite passive and expresses fear and isolation.
As far as I know (I'm no art expert), Munch concentrates on this kind of subject (death, misery, bleakness - the darker aspects of life in general) in most of his work, because he lost his whole family when he was still a child.
