The truth about the e200 button problems.

The truth about the e200 button problems.

Ok, I finally got my device back from Casio, and I have done some experimenting with it. Ok, here is what I have found when it comes to the dpad. In the os apps(i.e. scrolling through menus and in Word)it you can switch from one direction to another, and back again, and it function correctly. In games however, when you push, well, let me give an example....

You are playing Mario 3 in an NES emu, and you are goining right. Now, if you press up and then let go of right, you will keep going right. If you press left and then let go of right, you will stop dead in your tracks. Also, the scroll whell apears to function as if you pushed the up and down buttons in respect to the action they take, and to the dpad problem (in which case, pushing up on the scroll whell, causing the same up senario listed above).

Now on to the buttons.

Ok, this is a tricky one. Let's use the mario example from above. You push the B button, as any mario player would because you always want to be running. Now, you hit the A button (while holding the B button). You just up for the full height of your jump, and then you land. So, you think, what about that 2 button problem. You then push the A button again, and nothing happens (you are still holding the B button). For what ever reason, you push the up button (and then let go), and then hit the A button. You jump. This phenamina, which from now on will be called the muffin phenomina, works for all directional buttons, including the scroller and the action button. Now, it is not untill you let go of one of these magic buttons that you can once again use the two button combination.

So, what is my thought on this whole thing? Well, I say it is a gapi problem. Does quake use the GAPI for defining hardware buttons? If not, I can do further testing in it with that.

Wait a minute, YOU HAVE MARIO ON YOUR PPC!!! I want Mario! *starts crying*. Where'd you get it?? I have a Casio EM-500 MIPS. Ahh Mario, well, I really grew up on Sonic the Hedgehog, I had a Sega Genisis, but I had a GameBoy, so that was my Mario experience.

After we discuss the E-200 button thing, which sounds quite complex and weird (that's why I'm glad I have an EM-500), we can argue on who can beat who. In a fight, who will win, Mario or Sonic? I say Sonic because he can jump higher, go faster, and can get tons of different power-ups that he can shoot. Mario can get tons of power-ups, but is slow. Big he can become big Mario... I don't know, it'll be a good fight though. The last Sonic I've played was Sonic 3, how many have been made since then? Maybe I can have Mario and Sonic on my PPC! *starts drooling*

Am I dreaming, or do I see a short reply from Warren divided into 2 paragraphs? Very nice.

Instead of unecessarily taking this off topic, you might re-post the Mario/Sonic thing in its own thread.

No, this cannot be recognised as the Muffin Phenomena. People who fail to release a Wolf port AND a Legacy port don't have the celebrity or position to name something after themselves.

What do you think all those feeble "problems with gx.dll" are in the PQ forum? So has this been an ongoing problem with all e-200 users, or did you just come across it while playing Mario 3 in an emu?

First of all, I can call it what ever I want to call it. And since I named it first, then ha (*boasts like a 5 year old).

Now, about the problem. It is ongoing in the sence that it effects every e200. This problem is better than what the IPAQ had, but still not good enough. However, untill now, it was not properly documented. Even now, I am sure there are things that still need to be explored. Does anyone have a copy of Larry's "GAPI Info" program. I can not find it on his website, and it would be vary handy for testing this problem out. If I can't find it, I could write one myself, but prewritten and bug free is always better and quicker, when it comes to testing.

Okay, well the lack of this threads title appearing on the reply page (I often forget what the title was), This phenomena will forever be known as the "Randalls Ego phenomena".

Hopefully you have it a little more documented than what we see above.

I know more than I can explain in a short post. The above gives you two examples that I feel are relavant however.

One reason I haven't purchased a PPC2002 is because it seems almost everyone has a d-pad/button problem. As far as I know, the Ipaq 38xx doesn't, nor does the HP568. Is that correct? Or have others noticed problems with these 2 units also?

Dunno, I would have had it checked and replaced.

I think normally personal names are given to solutions, not problems. Once this is figured out, it could be named the Muffin Solution- right now it is tied to a problem as if Muffinman created the problem (all he did was diagnose it).

Thats par for the course, I guess.
