I've got a Jornada 420 (first generation color PSPC device, came out with the superior Casio E-105). HP released 16 bit display drivers for it also, although you had to dig to find them. With the 420, not only did the 16 bit driver make the display look much better, it also made it much, much faster. Like 3 times faster. The problem was that games of that era used a hacked, pre Game API library for direct screen access. It assumed that all 420's had an 8 bit display, so most games would not work properly with the 16 bit mode, even though they would have been much faster.
