Look, I know it sounds iffy, I thought so too. He said it's a port of a PC emulator. I'm at school right now. I'll post the URL when I get home.

And just so you guys know, I didn't say it would run like a dream, so don't fucking flame me for that. I'm just posting what the guy told me.

umm, first of all, the PSX rarely every uses 640x480, the only few games that used that was the title screen in Grant Turismo 2. now if you had an ATI imageon with 4mb VRAM, a PocketPC with 400mhz, and 128mb RAM, not to mention, a mostly Arm ASM PSX emulator, you could emulate PSX very smoothly. Now if you had a PowerVR MBX, which kicks so much ass, and its based on the Kyro III, just slower, It has a T&L engine. you would be able to play PSX on a 206mhz strongarm, if you had that PowerVR MBX. And Quake may run smoothly on a 100mhz PC, actually, it doesnt run smoothly on a 100mhz pc, my 233mhz MMX Pentuim w/ 32mb ram and 2mb VRAM can get at most 23fps @400x300 with sound on. ok, Quake was made to run on a 100mhz Pentuim, PSX games were made to run on a 33mhz PSX. and lots of PSX games are under 100mb, lots, the only problem would be controls.

And PocketGenesis probally has no asm in it, and its not that optimized, i mean, how many times has that emulator been updated??Genesis, SNES, GBA, would run full speed w/ sound and all the good stuff, if an emulator was optimized enough to run on just a StrongARM 206mhz, and like Michael said yesterday about TWSFC playing Super Mario World, "its almost full speed"

So let me get this straight. He's PORTING a Playstation emu for x86. Which requires a huge amount of resources to even run on a PC.

So when applied to the PPC that amounts to... not a hell of alot.

Hmm, we just need to have Sony make a Clie with PSX controls, and then put PocketPC on it, upgrade the hardware, ..., mwahahahahaaaaa!

jadam, were you born stupid, or did you have to learn that trade?

First of all i have the original Quake box sittig right here. It says it requires a Pentium 75. I have a 486DX 100, and it runs smooth as hell. So your system must suck ass if you can't squeeze any perfomance out of it. ok?

Second of all, most TVs don't even carry a resolution close to 640x480. Its somewhere closer to 320x240. ok?

Third of all, IF my Casio e-125 had a Geforce 4 (mobile) in it, it would be able to handle ANYTHING. Even at 150mhz. ok?

And do you actually know anything about coding? Simply "writing an emu in ASM" isn't going to fix a damn thing. ok?

You can't compare the PS CPU to the PocketPC CPU. Both have designated hardware, which allows the 33mhz Playstation to display data at a tolerable framerate. The PPC lacks this specialty hardware- in fact it lacks graphics acceleration completely.

The Gameboy Advance has something like a 33mhz StrongARM cpu (im not going to bother looking up the spec, but its WAY lower than PPC). You'd think that it would be a pinch to just slap that into a StrongARM PPC. Do you see a fully functional GBA yet, with perfect emulation and performance?

You need knowledge in Instruction Sets, cycles and CPU architecture- those are the basic components that clue you in to the real potential. Flinging your goddam numbers around here reminds me of a monkey throwing shit around his cage.

I posted this else where, but I thought that I should post it here. Think of these things....
1. PSX emulation takes about 2 years before you see some major gaming comming out of it.
2. Intell made a 1 ghz processor.
3. ASM, if written properly, can beat the crap out of a compiled c++ program (in most cases).
4. In 2 years we will have the required components,
5. There are usb ports on at least on ppc (e200) and there are usb gamepads.
6. Quake doesn't run close to full speed, yet it is tollorated. I would tollorate something on my 600 mhz arm ppc that runs at the same speed as quake.
7. My theory is that the next wave will have a graphics and or float processing unit.
8. It is ok to not believe, but stating incorrect facts should not be allowed.
