Jadam.. I still think anyone who program in ASM is crazy.
But has someone said:"There are geeks aout there doing cool stuff, just because they can"
(something like that)

Geeks = Crazy people.. perhaps.. I think so. :D

I would bet money that an obtimized version of a psx emu written in arm would be faster than quake 2 is right now.

I definitely think that a PSX emu is possible and even feasible/probable. If Dan East can port PQ2 to the PPC in one night, then pretty much anything is possible.

PQ2 is available for Playstation, but its textures are crappier than the one for PPC. PQ2 is not very playable, but it works in a pinch. Think about all of this... Bleem! (for instance) doesn't actually emulate the 3d hardware. 3d graphics engines can be very efficiently made for the PPC in ASM (for example, Diesel). The textures in PSX games are not very big. If you cut out the movies and the music, you have an actually PROBABLE emulator. As was mentioned before, the PSX uses very dirty 3d textures that are also quite grainy. The PSX mostly uses just 320x240 resolution, same as the PPC. It is possible to even decrease this resolution as far as 3d rendering goes, just like Bleem! increased the resolution. This is definitely a possibility. The Gravis gamepad already has drivers for iPAQs. PPCs at their best have plenty of RAM and plenty of storage for even 5 times the needs of most PSX games.

I remember when I participated in a discussion like this, but about an n64 emulator for the PPC... And that emulator discussion was in the same group of possibility as the Quake port that someone had proposed for the PPC (well before Dan East entered the scene). It's kind of funny because people were talking about the "soon to be released" 400 MHz PPCs back then, too...

With the 400 MHz PPCs actually on the verge of coming out, this port is much more feasible than Moose makes it seem.

I would put it this way - don't expect a PSX emulator for the current batch of devices. Expect one nearer the end of the life of the 300-400 XScale devices (you know, when that 1GHz HP iPaq comes out and sits next to your 4.5GHz laptop).

The chances are, a PSX emulator WILL arrive. There's very little doubt about that. If I was a better program, I wouldn't mind contributing. But don't expect anything as early as... err, now.
