Oh, I wasn't commenting on your comment, Robert. I was just making a blanket statement.

thats why I smoke cigars, you don't smoke one every 4 hours maybe a couple a week. Its more fun slecting the kinds you want and more of a hobby, and also cigarettes have gunpowder, ammonia (which is put in there to kill the cillia in your throat so you don't cough from the smoke) and they even put fiberglass in them, at least cigars are just pure tobacco.

I chew tobacco...but I am currently on the NICORETTE to try to quit! Because, as much as I LOVE doing it...I know it is bad.

Chewing tobacco is about 7% as harmful as smoking a cigarette. Keep chewing. It is much better for your overall health and your oral health specifically compared to smoking. There is a risk of oral cancer shown after 55 years of daily usage in a small percentage of men. That is pretty much it. Nicotine in itself has identical properties to caffeine, and so is not that bad unless you consider caffeine to be bad.
Yes, i mean skoal as well and no you cannot necessarily get cancer real quick in like 5 years. That is a myth. There is a higher chance with the hardcore stuff relative to lightweight smokeless tobacco.

1) I didn't say you cannot get cancer in 5 years. I said it is very unlikely and that studies show an average of 55 years of daily usage of smokeless tobacco before the onset of even carcinoma in situ. There are cases but it is not that common. Smokeless tobacco is extremely common in the southern US but the incidence of oral cancer is relatively low.

2) The first link you provided showed a guy who used smokeless tobacco for 38 years before oral cancer arose.

3) You cannot believe everything you see on the web. Ask Luci about how more and more folks are using the internet as a medical source when in fact a vast majority of these "sources" are not necessarily truthful--or they bend the truth. Listerine does this with their brochures.

4) I don't claim to be an expert on this area...but you are, I think, in Junior High School, whereas dentistry (as well as oral health) is my profession.

Ok, there's my nickel...keep the change.
