The shouting is part of the psychological training of a soldier. I thought I had already stated that. People that aren't tough enough will be weeded out and the people that are strong enough to become soldiers are only strengthened more.
And the 50 pushups thing is part of the physical training, not just some arbitrary activity because the officer is PMSing that day or something. Other times it's a form of punishment with a dual-fold purpose to train them physically as well.
