Postby UMCPmatt » Jul 12, 2002 @ 4:02am

yeah.. the modem I got with it does have a light that says PPPoe

what does that mean? I was planning on using the xbox multiplayer gaming when it came out

p2p apps seem to work fine..

I can not imagine that I would be sold broadband that I can not do online gaming with.. I figure I would atleast hear these problems for other earthlink users.. so i am worried but I still have some more games to try and I still gotta call earthlink...

ill look into that PPPoe thing

just talked to tech support

they say they heard nothing about PPPoe and any online gaming problems.. I do not have a router.. I do not think my firewall is on.. I do have XP..

If PPPoe was such a problem then there would be 10000 people with my problem so I am hoping it is just something I am doing wrong.

PPPoE stands for Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet.

I don't feel like helping anyone with network problems right now, mine is so junkered that I think I might just kill people ... that will fix it.

I looked that up for myself a while ago, it says you have to have certain TCP ports on the firewall open (router):

6667

and

28800 - 29000
(thats a range)

I'm going to see if that works, I enabled them last night.

Does anyone have experience with cable modems and the Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2's latest firmware? I can't get it to work for the life of me.
