The Next Generation Of PDAs

The Next Generation Of PDAs

For those of you that know me, you know what how much I LOVE tablets.

Check it out. It's not a PPC, but it is running CE.Net. I think this is really the next generation, and as well it should be.

The tablet form-factor is better for real business use, though i like the Pocket thing for carrying it with me everywhere.

Beyond that you get instant on with CE.Net, and a lightweight OS. Plus you get remote desktop control, so you CAN use a REAL computer on it if you need to.

And, if that ain't enough, it's only about $1100USD. Which is less than 2x what a PPC costs. If only it were 406mhz instead of 206mhz.

I'm not going into the Tablet arena until they invent some screen technology that can be folded (and not creased, of course)

[back on topic]
Well, like I said I would still want a PPC to carry around, but that would be nice to have for meetings and such.

My biggest gripe is going to a meeting and having to take notes on a notepad instead of my PPC, because the screen is too small to take notes on. Plus, I would like, when I am in my office, to be able to use the 802.11b connection to say RDP over to a server and show a demo. ya know?

I think is is more an additional toy than a replacement, though the cost makes that somewhat prohibative.

Ya, I already mentioned the Spirits within thing when someone posted about that keyboard that projects the image of the keys on the table top and detects where you press through a camera.

And have any of you seen those retina trackers for computers. You can control your mouse pointer with that! That would kick so much ass playing Quake3 with a retina scanner. All you'd have to do is look at you're opponent then blink to click the mouse button/fire. You're eyes would open from the blink to see gibs flying. That's the ultimate in pointer accuracy.

Doesn't that tablet use WindowsXP? There's not many handwriting programs for it, just Outlook. Not as good, I would have try to stick with HP/C Pro OS if I were them. But then it would be less functional I suppose.

Remember that light keyboard? I think we could see something like that as an alternative display. Anyone see those 3d montiors? They have 2 layers, one your typical fare, and the other a transparent layer. If you project the invisible layer onto a surface, and detect where your hands were, you could theoretically write everywhere.

It makes sense in my mind :P

*still waiting for Augmented Reality.. mmmm*

Tablet PC uses XP so any XP compatible apps can be used, correct? Does anyone know if it features direct x so XP games can be played too?

It's a full pc with a real x86 processor. It can run anything your PC can.
